The Role

• Our client is looking for an Engineering & Planning Manager to define and deliver turn-around, transformation and growth strategies for fixed and mobile asset engineering for the company’s mining operations at the Bogoso-Prestea Mine in Ghana and be accountable for designing and leading plans for optimising the maintenance functions for the site in the fields of mechanical/maintenance engineering, maintenance of assets and long-term planning for the support of successful safe and efficient mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance across the value chain for ore and metal production including the interactions between mine planning, mining methods, engineering modelling, and overall equipment availability improvement opportunities such as comminution performance.
• Manage and co-ordinate collaborative interaction between technical teams, suppliers and consultants in the areas of mining equipment, comminution, beneficiation and maintenance.
• Ensure the timely delivery of any specific engineering schedules, budgets, and reports.
• Manage front-end engineering and design, including ownership of relationships with lead engineering firms, for both mines, process plant to ensure decisions are commercially viable and fit for purpose.
• Manage and oversee the construction, commissioning and optimisation of engineering operations of all mining, mineral processing and supporting assets.
• Manage contractors or consultants to ensure that they adhere to the any contractual requirements including those pertaining to cost, quality and schedules.
• Oversee recruitment and development of engineering teams for each phase or construction, commissioning, and engineering operations.
• Lead Operational Engineering Readiness initiatives, including formation and alignment of teams, as part of any construction / commissioning process for the Mines, Process Plants and supporting assets.
• Confirm the development of standard operating procedures for the mines, Process plant, and the maintenance processes for all locations.
• Identify and guide innovative technical engineering solutions that provide mining, processing and support operations with a strategic and tactical advantage in production.
• Support the General Manager and Leadership team, including business leads, to translate complex, ambiguous challenges into workable solutions for any turn-around, transformation and growth initiatives.
• Provide input into turnaround and transformation projects’ tender and contract criteria, and participate in pre-selection forums; ultimately lead contract kick-off meetings for turnaround and transformation projects.
• Ensure technical engineering operational support and any construction/maintenance costs are maintained to budget and engineering operations are on schedule.

Qualification Required & Experience

Education, Experience & Essential Skills

• A Tertiary qualification in Engineering or similar.
• Statutory qualifications in operations in local jurisdictions is highly desirable.
• Strong experience in all aspects of engineering mining operations at the technical hands-on level including maintenance for underground and open pit strategic mining, maintenance engineering, and technical and financial evaluation.
• Knowledge on how to interpret assets and operating costs, being forecasts based on first principles, and able to critically evaluate performance and deliver to budgets and plans.
• Engineering management experience in at least a medium sized mining/mining services company including detailed reporting.
• Recognised as a technically competent engineering professional with exposure to different mining and processing techniques and understands hazards and risks.
• Multiple successful deliveries of engineering projects, maintenance strategies and studies.
• Significant experience leading turnaround engineering initiatives, and project design criteria, construction, and commissioning, resulting in successful and sustainable operations.
• Hands-on operational experience leading a wide range of transformation programmes.
• Experience in mining, maintenance and processing plants in Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Exposure to multiple ore production processes across a broad and deep career in the mining industry.
• Strong understanding of engineering financial analysis / cost control.
