OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
• The Fabricator, Winders & Shaft is accountable for welding, fabrication and boiler making activities for the refurbishment, maintenance and repair of winders and shafts in a safe and compliant manner.
• The role applies operational engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable and cost-effective manner while minimising operational risks.
• The role ensures work is carried out in accordance with LI2182 and other relevant Government of Ghana and AngloGold Ashanti requirements.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Review critical controls with the Supervisor and participate in workplace visits and inspections.
• Observe, identify and report hazards and positive safety observations.
• Assess risks for all tasks before and during execution and ensure controls are in place.
• Report all incidents and complete assigned corrective actions within required timelines.
• Demonstrate safety behaviour consistent with company values and apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance for breaches.
• Accept personal responsibility for own health and safety and that of every mine worker affected by the work.
• Adhere to the site Environmental Management Plan and work in compliance with environmental, health and safety legislation and company regulations.
• Gather relevant information for the Mechanical Supervisor - Winders and demonstrate company values in daily work.
• Fabricate, modify and repair winder-related structural components including skip and cage frames, guide systems, rope attachments, safety catches and headgear steelwork in line with approved engineering drawings.
• Execute welding and cutting operations in compliance with applicable welding codes and company quality standards.
• Conduct dimensional and visual quality checks on fabricated work and escalate non-conformances in line with quality management procedures.
• Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities, shaft inspections and shutdowns with on-site fabrication capability.
• Execute boiler making and fabrication work for refurbishment and maintenance activities in accordance with all relevant regulations and company requirements.
• Perform daily pre-start checks of equipment and tools before leaving the work site or workshop.
• Recognise machine or equipment anomalies that indicate maintenance requirements and report and escalate them.
• Provide data and information to support the Maintenance Planner to close out SAP work orders after completion of tasks for winders and shaft equipment refurbishment and maintenance activities.
• Execute designated tasks by carrying out daily work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
• Report any anomalies to the Supervisor.
• Assess all equipment required for task completion, including slings, chain blocks and wire ropes.
• Identify, communicate and escalate potential cost reduction initiatives to the Supervisor.
• Ensure quality work to prevent rework or the use of substandard materials.
• Execute work in a timely manner and escalate real or potential delays to the Supervisor.
• Perform daily risk assessments before commencing work and proactively register and escalate symptoms of potential failure to the Mechanical Supervisor - Winders.
• Report directly to the Mechanical Supervisor - Winders.
• Stop equipment from operating if there is high risk or it is unsafe to use and report this to the Mechanical Supervisor - Winders.
Qualification Required & Experience
• High School Certificate with 5 years of relevant experience in welding or fabrication, or Technical certification in welding or fabrication such as City & Guilds or NVTI with 3 years of relevant experience.
• MINCOM certification will be an added advantage.
• Familiarity with the Ghana Minerals and Mining Health, Safety and Technical Regulation.
Experience
• 3 to 5 years of experience in fabrication or welding roles, preferably in the mining or heavy industry.
• Experience in welding, fabrication and boiler making activities related to refurbishment, maintenance and repair work.
• Experience supporting planned and unplanned maintenance activities, shaft inspections and shutdown work.
Knowledge & Skills
• Skilled tradesperson able to craft, assemble and repair metal structures and components.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
• Skilled in the use of fabrication tools and machinery such as welders, grinders and cutters.
• Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Attention to detail and precision.
• Problem solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical issues effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the Supervisor.
• Ability to evaluate progression and adherence to deadlines on a routine basis.
• Hands-on approach and willingness to work long hours to achieve required results.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks.
