JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) has received funding from the United States Agency for International Development to implement the Strengthening Partnerships, Results and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) Project to work in northern Ghana with a focus on strengthening the treatment and preventive nutrition services in health facilities, and overseeing the implementation of specific tasks that strengthen community based nutrition improvements.

Job Title: Field Coordinator (JOB ID: GH-44149)

Job Summary

JSI is in search of a Field Coordinator to work in collaboration with the Deputy Country Manager to oversee the day-to-day management and operations of implementing the SPRING/Ghana work plan and high impact nutrition interventions across the SPRING districts. The Field Coordinator will ensure effective engagement of the District Coordinators and the technical support leads in Tamale.

In addition, the Field Coordinator will ensure support to district lead planning and take on responsibility for logistical support for commodity management and supply chain aspects including early warning elements.

Reporting Relationship

The Field Coordinator reports to the Deputy Country Manager based in Tamale, Ghana

Major Duties and Responsibilities

•   Program Operations Support
•   Oversee District Coordinators work plans and ensure effective implementation of SPRING/Ghana activities
•   Ensure coordination and timely engagement between District Coordinators, technical staff, and local partners
•   Create and manage reporting structure for District Coordinators and district partners
•   Contribute to the development of resource materials, including process and implementation guidelines
•   Provide timely programmatic and technical reports, documents and proposals, as requested.
•   Review and refine documents/outputs produced by consultants and other SPRING/Ghana staff.
•   Work with other technical team members to identify opportunities for further strengthening of District Health Teams, health systems, and community services for uptake of nutrition services.
•   Provide support to Strategic Information team and the Deputy Country Manager in strategic and critical thinking for shaping, executing, and achieving key SPRING/Ghana results
•   Work closely with Strategic Information team to monitor performance against set indicators and document best practices

Human Resources Management

•   Directly supervise, provide day to day oversight, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to the all District Coordinators
•   Participate in the identification, recruitment and management of consultants for research, design of documents and other relevant tasks, as necessary.

Technical Leadership

•   In consultation with SPRING/Ghana country management and USAID | DELIVER, define SPRING/Ghana logistics and supply chain management strategy of commodities at the CHPS facility levels that addresses stunting and anemia
•   Drive the development of supply chain standards/tools and support District Coordinator in successful implementation
•   Develop and sustain partner relationships, including academic institutions and technical institutions working in nutrition.
•   In consultation with the Deputy Country Manager, represent SPRING/Ghana in coordination meetings and forums within the districts, regions and country, as needed.
•   Closely collaborate with social and behavior change communication (SBCC) team in planning, implementing and monitoring of nutrition activities and interventions.

Capacity Building for Quality Nutrition Program

•   Work with Strategic Information team to develop a systematic approach to document processes, including costing and scaling up of nutrition interventions.
•   Ensure that technical approaches for scaling up nutrition services build on in-country district capacity to ensure sustainability of services.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Masters’ degree in Community Health, Program Management, Development Planning, Public Health, logistics or closely related fields
•   At least 8 years of proven experience in implementing community and facility based development programmes
•   Excellent English (written and oral communication) skills and the ability to write for a range of audiences and purposes, including superior presentation skills.
•   Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage diverse activities, including designing activities, mobilizing resources, identifying and managing partners, and reporting.
•   Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project.
•   Ability to effectively work independently and outside of conventional office environments, if needed.
•   Ability to work effectively in a team consisting of people with different technical backgrounds and with varying levels of technical training.
•   Demonstrated managerial, supervisory and interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate relationships, interact effectively with clients and colleagues, and mentor junior technical staff.
•   Ability to translate technical information into practical guidance and tools and effectively communicate these using print, electronic, and presentation media.
•   Proven track record that demonstrates leadership skills, project management, budget and resource management experience, and client relationship management capability.
•   Experience working across multiple sub agreements and partners; ability to work well with people at all levels.
•   Must be authorized to work in Ghana.
