Description Of Job
CARE seeks a Gender Specialist for an upcoming, four (4) year program in Ghana.
This project has a heavy focus on providing technical expertise to the Ghana Education Service in early grade literacy and numeracy for primary school students. The project aims to improve reading skills in 2 million primary students by 2016.
SUMMARY
• The Gender Specialist will provide leadership, direction, and coordination to integrate gender, ensuring that boys and girls and men and women will have their different needs analyzed and addressed with respect to the provision and improvement of early grade reading and numeracy skills in Ghana.
• The Gender Specialist will use existing documentation and develop tools to enhance and expand on existing gender analysis to better understand the context and dynamics at a play related to gender and education in Ghana.
• In addition, the Gender Specialist will lead development and coordination of trainings for project staff, government officials, teachers and parents to raise awareness and provide tools for dialogue and communication and action to improve gender relations.
• The Gender Specialist will work closely with the Gender Education Unit ensuring alignment with the National Gender Action Plan and providing technical support as needed.

Qualification Required & Experience
• Master’s Degree in International Development, Women’s Studies, Education or related field or Bachelors and additional 5 years field experience.
• Background/qualifications in gender transformative programming, gender analysis,
• Minimum of 5 years experience working in the education or gender programming in an developing country,
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively communicate new or sensitive topics;
• Knowledge and experience with participatory planning methodologies that promote learning and social change
• Excellent interpersonal and team work skills.
• Superior written and oral skills in English are essential.
