Job Objective

• As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Technical Operations will provide operational leadership and direction to the company's technical division, i.e Underwriting, Claims and reinsurance, for the successful attainment of set corporate objectives.
• He/she will supervise the implementation of Underwriting, Claims and Reinsurance strategies in line with company's policies, procedures and the overall company strategy

Duties and Responsibilities, include but are not limited to the following:

Technical Function

• Develop appropriate policies and procedures for effective implementation of technical strategies at all the Technical Offices
• Monitor and coordinate the activities of all Underwriting/Technical offices
• Approve underwriting policies and claims in accordance with company's policies
• Ensure periodic revision of policy wording (including terms and conditions), waranties, clauses, etc
• Prepare and maintain up-to-date Technical manuals and guidelines and enforce compliance
• Periodically review and recommend improvements in underwriting and claims strategies and operating procedures
• Submit periodic operational reports to GM (Technical Operations).
• Chair the Claims settlement committee and ensure prompt payment of claims
• Vet all risks up to the required approved limits and ensure that the risks undertaken by the company are adequartely covered through reinsurance programs
• Perform any other assignments given by the GM (Technical Operations)


• Responsible for the overall supervision, appraisal, training and development of all staff of technical departments
• Ensure that all direct reports exhaust their leave days by the end of each year
• Undertake internal training initiatives to expand the technical skills of Underwriters
• Ensure staff discipline i.e reporting times, adsenteeism, adherence to dress code and general compliance with all rules and regulations of the company
• Undertake any other duties that will be assigned by the Executive

Qualification Required & Experience

• A bachelor's degree from a reputable university or equivalent qualification
• A Masters Degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage
• Must be a Chartered insurer (ACII qualification) with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience in a managerial position in the insurance industry
