The AGA Africa Business Unit is seeking experienced and self-motivated persons to join our team.

ROLE PURPOSE

• The purpose of this role is to provide professional advice, support and oversight compliance in terms of occupational health and safety in the Projects jurisdictions. It further seeks to augment the labour strength of the Project safety department across the operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assist in conducting planned inspection & audits using checklist periodically, aimed at evaluating compliance with standards and checking the state of safety of all equipment while enforcing regulatory compliance.
• Provide support to the construction team by maintaining a visible presence on the field performing site inspections to ensure relevant risks are adequately managed.
• Support direct Manager to deliver the work of the Department within specified timeframes and related KPIs.
• Assist in conducting formal risk assessment of the work activities and ensure that all significant risks identified from the risk assessment as well as all other sources, such as audit reports, are captured and that appropriate corrective actions are planned and implemented.
• Assist in conducting investigations into the causes of all incidents, recommending, and enforcing the implementation of remedial measures to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance in conducting periodic planned job observations and planned inspections on various categories of the workmen and related project areas to enhance safe work practices.
• Assist in conducting periodic on-the-job training for the various categories of construction workers to heighten their safety awareness to ensure they carry out their tasks in a safe manner.
• Contractor management. Act on all employee environmental complaints and suggestions.
• Support direct Manager to deliver the work of the Department within approved budget, specified timeframes and related KPIs.
• Attend, participate and / or facilitate safety meetings including Safety Committee meetings and Toolbox Meetings.

Qualification Required & Experience

• Must have a degree in safety and environmental engineering or related field.
• A professional qualification in health and safety (such as NEBOSH IGC) will be an advantage.
• A Safety Officer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC) will be an advantage.
• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification from a recognize institution will be an advantage.

Experience

• Must have a minimum of 3 years surface and underground experience in mining or construction projects.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and be able to demonstrate adequate competence in driving.

Skills & Competencies:

• Knowledge of safety legislation and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and organizational skills.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Proficient in MS Office and environmental data analysis tools.
• Ability to work in field conditions and multi-cultural environments.
