Job Summary

The Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Technical Advisor will work closely with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, and QI Advisor to provide technical direction and coordination of infection prevention and control technical activities across the Systems for Health portfolio.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

•   Provide technical direction and coordination for the design and implementation of project-supported training and technical assistance in IPC
•   Partner with the Ministry of Health (MOH)/Ghana Health Service (GHS) to build the capacity of health workers and facilities in infection prevention and control and ensure technical assistance activities align with MOH/GHS in-service training plans and guidelines

Activities include:

•   Support the dissemination of IPC policies and guidelines as well as standard operating procedures for infection prevention and control.
•   Work with GHS to design and implement a coordinated technical-assistance plan in infection prevention and control. This includes working with GHS to fully integrate updated IPC content into training and capacity building approaches across different technical areas.
•   Update and finalize training content and job aids related to IPC, as needed.
•   Provide technical support to GHS to identify and disseminate IPC-related supplies needed at health facilities in the five target regions.
•   Assist the regions, districts, and sub-districts in the regions to provide residential and/or on-site training and supportive supervision to health workers in:

1) Updated IPC guidelines
2) Priority IPC behaviors in the health facility (e.g., safe waste disposal, hand washing, etc.).

•   Represent the project in technical and coordination meetings with GHS and other partners
•   Routinely synthesize and contribute state-of-the art technical information in IPC, including review and dissemination of scientific literature, best practices and lessons learned
•   Support communication, coordination and documentation of work, including timely documentation and submission of meeting notes, trip reports and contributions to bi-weekly reports, quarterly reports, annual reports, etc.
•   Other duties as assigned

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Medical, nursing or midwifery graduate degree, plus MPH or a master’s degree in related field, plus ten (10) years of relevant work experience in health service delivery in Ghana
•   Five (5) years of recent experience supporting the implementation of quality assurance programs in the health sector in Ghana is an added advantage
•   Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practices and service delivery approaches using quality improvement protocols
•   Broad understanding and experience in infection and prevention control interventions in Ghana

Skills and Abilities

•   Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organize a demanding workload comprised of diverse and challenging tasks and responsibilities.
•   Strong time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work well independently and in teams.
•   Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills in English; high comfort-level with writing and presenting data and information in a compelling way to different audiences.
•   Ability to work effectively and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
•   Ability and willingness to travel significantly in the regions.
