Description of Job

The British High Commission (BHC) Accra has a vacancy from 1st October 2012 for an LE3 Deputy Security Officer. While taking a strategic overview and planning ahead to ensure security operations are well organized, the officer must also pay attention to details as well as deliver a standard of service that meets the High Commission’s expectations.

The job-holder will report to the Security Officer.

The main elements of the job include:

•  Working with the Security officer in the management of the man guarding contract
•  Assisting in the implementation of security procedures and maintenance of standards throughout the estate
•  Being  point of contact for all staff on security related issues
•  Maintaining existing technical security elements throughout the mission
•  Liaising with local law enforcement and government contacts
•  Providing leave cover for PSM
•  Line management responsibilities for 10 internal security personnel

Qualification Required & Experience

The skills/attributes of the successful applicant will include

•  Strong organisational skills, including time management, demonstrating personal drive and enthusiasm.
•  Prioritising in a fast-paced work environment, working largely unsupervised and delivering to deadlines; ability to deliver alone, as part of a team, and through teams
•  Communicating and influencing skills, with a strong customer focus, adopting different styles as necessary.
•  Ability to engage with clients and colleagues at all levels.

The successful applicant is likely to have one or more of

•  Office and staff management experience.
•  Fluency in English, orally and in writing.
•  Fluency in one Ghanaian language
•  Working knowledge of French
•  IT skills using Microsoft software.
•  Be on call 24/7
•  Minimum 5 years security related experience.

Information for applicants
The monthly starting gross salary for LE3 positions in the BHC is GHc1, 206.

The appointment will be offered initially on a 1 year contract, and subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. Thereafter, the appointment will be renewed for periods of 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance, by mutual agreement.

Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate.
