The Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC), whose mission is to promote viable, safe and efficient lake transport services to link the northern and the southern sectors of Ghana for the socio-economic development of the country and to facilitate both internal trade and sub-regional trade with landlocked neighbouring countries

JOB FUNCTION
Responsible for the development, implementation, marketing and service strategies in line with VLTC's strategic intent and changes in the external business environment to enhance and optimize value creation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

•   Develop and implement commercial business opportunities consistent with VLTC Shareholders' strategies and external market condition to maximize the strategic and financial value of VLTC assets.
•   Direct and control the Marketing, Traffic, Liquid Cargo Departments,  Ferry stations  and  Buipe Akosombo Port Operations.
•   Manage VLTC's relationship with suppliers,  customers, potential customers, trade groups and various government ministries and entities.
•   Carry out  continuously  the  assessment of the  market potential of the VLTC (Market Analysis) with the aim of increasing VLTC's share of transportation within the Lake influence areas.
•   Maintain close contacts with major customers and develop "tailor-made" solutions to make use of VLTC facilities and transportation more favorable.
•   Develop and maintain close collaboration with private road haulers to serve as feeder service providers to the Lake transport system.
•   Direct and control the Tarffic Operations Section.
•   Organize training  programmes aimed at increasing  the efficiency of port operations and removing bottlenecks from the transport chain of Road-Jake-Road-system.
•   Establish systems to optimize flow of cargo and supervise cargo handling and utilization of vessels, warehouse and equipment.
•   Control commercial operations and conclude contracts with customers within separately defined limits.
•   Undertake analysis and recommend appropriate tariffs to maintain the advantage of Lake Transportation on including the   use  of  promotional  freight   rates   and  rebates  for deserving customers.
•   Prepare and submit to the Managing Director for approval draft  standard  carriage  contracts  and  also  to  prepare specific contract agreements between VLTC and clients for Management approval.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Degree in Social Sciences, Business Admin./ Economics.
•   A minimum of 10 years relevant post qualification experience preferably in the marine employment
•   In-depth knowledge of contract administration.
•   Must be customer focused and oriented
•   Knowledge of maritime transport rate making will be an advantage
