Position: Mining Engineer – Drill & Blast
Grade: Stratum I - High

Number of Position(s): One (1)

Role Purpose

• To provide support to drive integration of the drill and blast functions across the Mine by assisting in the development and implementation of mining designs, schedules and monitor production performance.

Accountabilities

• Provide Drill & Blast design & scheduling for monthly/ yearly/ life of mine planning.
• Drill & Blast cost planning, reconciliation, and EOM processes
• Monitor Drill & Blast performance modelling.
• Assist in mapping of key internal stakeholder relationships and value with relevant management routines (communication, touchpoints, key meetings)
• Implement QAQC program for continuous improvement.
• Assist in the implementation of Drill & Blast programs including Drill equipment locations, performance, schedules, and inventory trackers.
• Participate in developing the annual Drill & Blast cost center budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and Life of Mine (LoM) business plans.
• Assist in the delivery of the Drill & Blast targets within approved budget, timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
• Demonstrate personal Safety and accountability. Build, develop, and lead the open pit drill & blast team.

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a reputable institution
• Blasting Certificate of Competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission

Experience

• Minimum of 1-3 years working experience in related field within the mining industry

Technical & Other Competencies

• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of fundamental open pit drill & blast production methods.
• In depth knowledge on drill and blasting operations, mine to mill concept.
• Experience with large scale open-pit hard rock mining
• Experience in managing mining and continuous improvement projects.
• Competent in at least one General Mining Package (Applicants with Data Blast, Datamine Studio OP, RIOBLAST, experience will be held in high regard), in addition to MS Office software including Excel and Project
• Excellent computer skills such as basic scripting
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English
• Must possess very strong human relations skills and ability to interact with people of diverse culture and value.
• Shot firers certificate of competency or equivalent.
• Possess a valid driver’s licence and proficiency in driving light vehicle.
