Job Summary
• The primary responsibility of the Oncology Nurse Specialist is to cater to the needs of outpatients who visit SGMC for various purposes, like oncology or general consultation, day care treatment, investigation, referral, treatment admission and post discharge follow up. Oncology Nurse Specialist is also accountable for the delivery of high standards of patient care according to SGMC and Ghana’s regulatory nursing standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
You will be expected to achieve a high standard of performance as an Oncology Nurse Specialist while you deliver on the following broad job functions (details of which will be provided to you in a job description):
• Maintains strict confidentiality of patients and patient-related issues.
• Follows all written and statutory policies for chemotherapy treatment, administration of chemotherapy drugs, safe drug handling and disposal, management of untoward reactions, such as allergic reactions, and methods for documenting patient treatment.
• Ensures that the correct dose and drug are administered by the correct route to the right patient.
• Safeguards against errors by following SGMC protocols and procedures, with the knowledge that complex regimens of potentially lethal drugs are being employed in a variety of treatment settings. Brings to attention of management areas where these can be improved.
• Supports symptom management by triaging patient problems and assisting in the evaluation of symptoms and initiation of interventions.

Qualification Required & Experience
Requirements
• Bachelor of Nursing and registered with the National Nursing Midwifery Council(NMC)
• Approved Oncology Nursing Certification from Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives
• Should have between three to five years’ experience in Oncology Nursing
• Exceptional leadership, teamwork, communication and problem solving skills are essential
