The University of Ghana hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Principal, Takoradi City Campus, to take effect from 1st January 2026.

REPORTING TO: Provost, College of Education

THE INSTITUTION:

The University of Ghana was established in 1948 to provide higher education, undertake research, disseminate knowledge and to foster relationships with outside persons and bodies. OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE: The College of Education shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units and by these specific objectives, to:

• develop world-class graduates to meet national and global developmental needs through quality teaching, learning and research;
• provide expanded opportunities for adult, continuing and distance education, including the use of cutting-edge technologies to extend the reach of the University to student populations in formats beyond face-to-face classroombased learning;
• equip students and practitioners of information and communication management with state-of-the-art skills and competencies to effectively serve national and international publics;
• create a congenial environment for memorable teaching, learning and research experiences for faculty and students;
• enhance research capabilities and output of faculty, students and other employees;
• establish and promote the internationalisation of the programmes and courses of study and instruction in the College;
• enhance employee capacity through systematic staff development programmes;
• develop effective processes for public engagement through extension services, policy development and advocacy.

DUTIES

• The Principal is the academic and administrative head of the Takoradi City Campus and is required to provide administrative and academic direction and leadership for the Campus, as determined by the Council and Academic Board of the University.
• The Principal is responsible for providing leadership to the Campus and for maintaining and promoting efficiency and good order per the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council and the Academic Board.
• The Principal is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the Campus are duly carried out.
• The Principal is to provide leadership towards increasing enrolment at the Campus
• The Principal is also responsible for the general administration of the Campus in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

Qualification Required & Experience

The successful candidate must:

• Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.
• Be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
• Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment.
• Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
• Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the Takoradi City Campus.
• Have substantial managerial and administrative leadership and demonstrate the ability to promote a collegial working environment in the Campus.
• Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
• Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the Takoradi City Campus.

SALARY

Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and responsibility allowance.

TENURE

The person appointed as Principal must be able to hold office for a period of three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board, before reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years, and may be eligible for reappointment for a further term of up to three years.
