Job Vacancy For Programme Officer – Policy Influencing And Advocacy Officer At West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI)



The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) was established to build the institutional and operational capacity of civil society in West Africa, through knowledge management, capacity development and policy influencing. WACSI seeks committed, motivated and dynamic persons to join its team in contributing to enhancing civil society’s efficiency and effectiveness in West Africa. The Officers will undertake activities that seek to strengthen the institutional and operational capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs).

General Description:

•   The Policy Influencing Officer will report to the Head of the Policy Influencing Unit.
•   The Officer will be responsible for providing the necessary assistance in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Institute’s policy influencing strategy.

Responsibilities:

•   Work with the head of the Policy Influencing unit to design and implement programmes in line with WACSI’s vision, mission and strategic objectives;
•   Research, write and produce policy and advocacy outputs, such as reports, briefings, fact sheets, press releases, short articles for (and on) relevant policy meetings;
•   Document and regularly update current data and potential information for the unit on emerging issues and opportunities occurring at local and international policy levels;
•   Assist in networking and alliance building with  advocacy groups at national, regional and international;
•   Assist in the coordination of policy forums and related workshops;
•   Assist in the design, development and delivery of policy advocacy training tools;
•   Troubleshooting to help identify and resolve project issues, thus ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget;
•   Participate in unit and cross-unit programme/project planning and proposal development;
•   Any other duties that will be assigned by the Head of the Policy Influencing Unit or Executive Director.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Law, Social Science or related subjects, with an advanced degree preferred;
•   At least 3 years of professional experience in the field of civil society advocacy, governance and democracy, public policy engagement or other related subject;
•   Previous working experience in the civil society sector and/ or academic sector in West Africa.

•   Strong interest and deep knowledge in public policy and civil society in West Africa;
•   Excellent interpersonal and people-management skills;
•   Good communication, writing, organizational and project implementation skills in addition to good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
•   Attention to detail and results oriented;
•   Ability to multi-task and a team player;
•   Ability to work without supervision; dynamic, self-motivated;
•   High proficiency in English and French.
