JOB PURPOSE
• This role involves senior level expertise for the management and support of business critical and ad-hoc Databases.
• Ensuring databases are running smoothly by performing regular maintenance tasks such as backups, disaster recovery and high availability, and performance tuning.
• Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the data.
• Monitoring database performance and capacity to identify and resolve any issues that may arise.
• Planning and implementing data migration to new databases or systems. Working closely with developers, project managers, and other IT staff to support database-related projects and ensure seamless integration.
• Creating and maintaining documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• To automate database backups on business-critical ad-hoc and production systems.
• Responsible for the Configuration of active data-guard and the replication of oracle database across the group.
• To develop standards, policies, and procedures to govern implementation, management, and support for all Database systems in accordance with industry best practices.
• Install, Configure and Manage Oracle, MSSQL and MySQL database instances, including monitoring system health and performance, to ensure high performance, availability, and security.
• Provide 3rd-level support for all database-related issues during End of Day, End of Month/Year processes.
• Independently analyze, solve, and troubleshoot issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem resolution and 24x7 on-call escalation for support of production and UAT databases.
• Report on key performance metrics for the database functional area and be responsible for ensuring adherence to service level agreements on end-user issues.
• Proactive planning to ensure that sufficient space is available for data growth and that the average and peak utilization of Memory, Storage, Processor, and tablespace utilization falls within the Capacity Management thresholds.
• To guide, oversee, prepare, and assist with various database software implementation projects for the Bank to support business functions while ensuring 100% adherence to Technology’s project governance framework.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
• 99.95% uptime of the database systems and instances
• Ensure timeliness in response and resolution of inquiries and complaints in accordance with agreed SLAs.
• To ensure that all customers of the Ecobank Group are well served and satisfied in the services delivered by Storage, and Database Systems
• Ensure that all critical production systems are managed according to best practices and the operational manual to avoid mistakes.
• To ensure that all Database systems and related processes and procedures are adequately documented.
• Provide weekly Incident and Database Growth reports by Close of Business on Friday.
• Ensure the databases supporting the core Banking, transactional and non-transactional systems are always available. (24 x 7) except planned and approved downtime.
• Proven management skills with the ability to optimize team performance and development.
• Highly skilled communicator with the ability to communicate complex concepts to others.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form and maintain strong relationships internally and externally and engage with stakeholders.
• Maintain CPU, memory, and storage usage under 70-80% during peak times.
• Resolve critical database issues within 30mins
• Automate 95%+ of routine DBA tasks.
• Achieve an 99 satisfaction score for database reliability.
• Minimize or eliminate revenue loss due to database downtime.
• 100% successful backups within the designated backup window.
• Zero critical findings in security/compliance audits.
• Maintain optimal performance during high-transaction periods
Qualification Required & Experience
• degree in Computer Sciences, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
• A Post graduate degree in Management or an Information Technology discipline will be an advantage
• Certification(s) in related ICT specializations – e.g. ITIL, PRINCE2, Oracle Certified Administration (OCA).
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years Oracle database and OCI Administration experience required
• 5+ years of Technical Operations/Engineering experience
• Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle Database Extensive experience in designing, installing and configuring oracle 11g,12c,19c, MSSQL and MySQL
• Extensive Experience with Oracle Data platform technologies such as Table partitioning, Data-guard replication, Failover Clustering, and Automation in is greatly desired
• Hands-on experience providing backup and recovery for databases using native Oracle Database backup as well as knowledge of integration with third party backup solutions (e.g. VERITAS Net-backup).
• Ability to organize and plan work independently.
• Proven people management skill set
• Strong IT systems knowledge and skills and the ability to learn new software package.
• High level of proficiency in documentation and report writing of technical and other information, with MS Office Suite and Visio,
• Knowledge of Unix Administration skills (specifically AIX, and Linux) is desirable.
