AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

JOB POSTING: SITE TAILINGS ENGINEER
DEPARTMENT : PROCESSING

EMPLOYMENT STATUS : PERMANENT

ROLE PURPOSE
• To support the Tailings Manager to maintain and improve the operations at the Tailings Storage Facilities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
• Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
• Act on all corrective actions assigned and ensure timely completion.
• Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
• Investigate all appropriate equipment related safety and environmental status and take prompt and appropriate corrective action
• Support with the preparation and execution of training and development plans.
• Communicate policies and procedures to stakeholders in a manner to achieve full understanding and compliance.
• Provide guidance to direct reports in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance.
• Develop a skill matrix that includes all disciplines and individual achievements
• Ensure direct reports provide all input up to date for the skill matrix.
• Inspect and monitor that all out-posted role-holders work within the work Management System framework and that coaching is conducted where work is not completed to an acceptable standard.
• Building effective working relationships with key stakeholders to ensure expected results are achieved.
• Ensure activities of the TSF comply with AGA TSF management framework and GISTM.
• Maintain Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) key performance indicators (KPI’s) including freeboard, pool distances and pool depth and adherence to the standard operating procedure (SOP) at the TSF.
• Produce reports based on interpretation of daily, weekly and monthly monitoring information.
• Monitor the performance of the TSF, observe and report on effectiveness of maintenance of all TSFs.
• Inspect TSF infrastructures and provide feedback to the line manager.
• Supervise TSF operations and construction activities of contractors.
• Supervise daily operations of TSF contractors including cleaning of Solution trenches, drain boxes.
• Maintain discipline and performance management among the members of the TSF crew.
• Ensure the tailings deposition systems are constructed and operated within life of mine depositional requirements in line with legislative instrument (LI 2182).
• Ensure environmental risks and opportunities are identified, and control measures implemented to address issues.
• Assist with interactive development of Tailings Storage Facilities final design drawings and documentation through to effective communication to the construction team.
• Oversee required tailings deposition infrastructure, methods and operations as well as embankment design works.
• Compile all required reporting including daily, weekly and monthly monitoring reports, monthly stewardship documents and annual construction reports
• Regularly monitor the performance of any geotechnical structures, observing and reporting on effectiveness of maintenance of all TSF facilities.
• Verify that operational freeboard (including factors of safety), storm water channels and access routes are properly maintained and reporting to line manager.
• Manage the TSF risk register which includes identifying risks with operations and stakeholders throughout the mine life cycle, developing corrective actions to mitigate risk and monitor implementation of corrective actions
Qualification Required & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, Geotechnical/Geological Engineering or its equivalent
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations, construction and management of Tailings Storage Facility
• Preferably 5 - 8 years in a management / senior supervisory role
• Experience and good understanding of total mining cycle.
Legal Requirement
• Professional Engineer (Ghana Institution of Engineers)
Technical Competencies
• Management of plant performance and efficiency.
• Proven understanding of mechanical operations of key plant equipment such as TSF monitoring devices, pumps, pneumatic valves etc.
• Must be able to understand and appreciate the hazards associated with chemicals and equipment found within a processing plant.
• Understand plant KPI’s and metrics

• Ability to adhere to routine and time sensitive, possibly repetitive tasks
