Our client is an integrated mining, energy and infrastructure business operating in Sub-Saharan Africa that takes a sustainable approach to the development and ownership of its assets to generate shared value for all stakeholders over the long-term.

The Role

• Our client is looking for a Specialist Programme Office Manager to design, initiate and establish a Programme Management Office (PMO) and set up the systems, structures and processes for successful development, construction, commissioning, and seamless handover of multiple concurrent development projects with multi-million USD development costs that will significantly expand the scope of production.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and design the programme and proactively monitoring progress, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective actions.
• Ensure the delivery of projects is to the appropriate level of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the programme plan and programme governance arrangements.
• Define the programme’s governance tools and arrangements, including reporting, templates, and meeting structures.
• Establish and run effective programme/portfolio governance, agree scope and approach of the programme/portfolio, drive decision making, identifying and removing obstacles to progress, resolving any conflicting stakeholder issues, supported by comprehensive reporting.
• Ensure effective assurance and overall integrity of projects – focusing inwardly on the internal delivery of projects and outwardly on programme consistency with business planning.
• Manage project budgets and monitor expenditure and costs against delivered and realised benefits as projects progress.
• Support the effective mobilisation and initiation of new projects, in life project governance and effective project and close activities.
• Create high quality project and programme performance reports and management/board review packs.
• Facilitate the appointment of individuals from the business to project teams.
• Manage the portfolio to deliver objectives and business outcomes; identifying and managing risks, issues, and dependencies; devising mitigating actions where required; and effectively escalating as required.

Qualification Required & Experience

Education, Experience & Essential Skills

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• Senior PMO management experience in mining turn-around operations, converting studies to operating processes.
• Knowledge on how to interpret operational and capital expenditure, developing forecasts, and able to critically evaluate organizational and financial performance and deliver to plan.
• Proven experience delivering multiple mining transformation programmes.
• Strong understanding of financial analysis/cost control.
• Genuine understanding of corporate social responsibility and sustainability, and the criticality of managing external stakeholder relations.
• Strong focus on incorporating environment, workplace health, safety, and security requirements across multiple projects
