Job Vacancy For System Operator At West African Power Pool (WAPP)



WAPP is a specialised institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that was created to integrate the operations of its member power utilities into a unified sustainable regional electricity market, with ultimate goal of providing the ECOWAS Member States with stable and reliable electricity supply, at affordable cost, in the medium and long terms. The WAPP General Secretariat has its headquaters in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

Within the framework of strengthening the WAPP information and Co-ordination Centre, WAPP intends to recruit two (2no) each of system operators and SCADA / Telecommunication engineers for efficient manning of its operations

System Operator

Objective Of the Position

•  Responsible for safe and reliable operations of the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) interconnected network
•  Co-ordinate the operation of WAPP interconnected Power Systems in real-time in accordance to market demand

Qualification Required & Experience

Required Competencies and Qualifications

•  BSc Electrical Engineering
•  5 - 7 years working experience (or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered)

Type of Experience

•  Power System operations experience, especially in transmission systems, and interconnected electricity system
•  More than 5 years of experience electricity industry, and knowledgeable in operation of generating power station, high voltage transmission network and system operations
•  Relevant experience in using SCADA system to operate HV electricity network

Location: Benin
