Job Vacancy For Technical Advisor (Automotive and E-Mobility)

Project Brief:

• The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been active in Ghana in the context of international development cooperation for more than 30 years.
• GIZ has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to implement the Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition” in Ghana. Due to the constant growth of Africa’s population (population doubles to 2.5 billion people by 2050), the continent needs 20 million new jobs annually. This goal is only achievable in cooperation with the private sector.
• To realize employment-related investments with companies, the Special Initiative works in three areas of intervention: Business & Investment, Ghanaian SME & Cluster Focus.

Scope of Role:

• In close cooperation with the Invest for Jobs team, the Head of Business & Invest/Cluster, and the Invest for Global Programme, the Technical Advisor will contribute to the implementation of projects in the portfolio as well as lead the development of new projects in the sector.
• Advise SMIDO in the development and implementation of capacity development activities for organizations and artisans in Suame Magazine, including business skills, social security, operational safety and health, green technologies, and waste management.

Tasks:

• Provide technical advisory for upgrading infrastructure, workplace environment and safety, production processes, and increase technology adoption within Suame Magazine to improve productivity and environmental performance.
• Develop and implement new and existing projects, such as support to SMIDO, and monitor and evaluate outcomes against agreed targets to ensure impactful project delivery.
• Advise on the development and implementation of strategies and policy recommendations for strengthening Ghana’s automotive and e-mobility sectors, such as in regard to the mandate of the automotive development centre.
• Foster strategic partnerships with automotive companies, e-mobility innovators, academia, and development partners.
• Lead public-private exchange formats and advise stakeholders on the integration of green technologies, local value chain development, and workforce upskilling in automotive and electric mobility.
• Develop and implement new projects and ensure the successful implementation of ongoing projects per GIZ’s processes and regulations, including for monitoring and evaluation.
• Ensure alignment and leverage synergy through knowledge exchange with other GIZ programmes in related areas.
• Contribute to reporting, sector studies, monitoring and evaluation appropriate inputs for various studies commissioned by assigned partners, where necessary.
• Perform other tasks at the request of management related to the successful implementation of the programme

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc/Master’s degree in Business Studies, Economics, Engineering, Industrial Development, Environmental Sciences, Transport Planning, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the automotive, transport, or green technology sectors, with a strong advisory and project implementation component.
• Proven experience in technical advisory services and project management, preferably in emerging economies or development cooperation contexts.
• Solid knowledge of e-mobility trends, EV infrastructure, green value chains, and relevant international standards, networks and policies.
• Excellent coordination, intercultural, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Have a working knowledge of ICT tools and standard office IT tools and systems.
