Project Brief

• The Climate Action Programme for the Chemical Industry (CAPCI) is financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) in the framework of the International Climate Initiative. It provides knowledge and capacity building in climate protection options in the chemical industry with a focus on practical application and concrete measures. Ghana is on of the focus countries of CAPCI (together with Argentina and Thailand).

Scope of the role

• The Technical Advisor will identify opportunities for the chemical industry in Ghana to reduce its Greenhouse Gas emissions, inform and train it accordingly and assist networking and communication efforts on the topic.

Tasks

The Technical Advisor will perform the following tasks:

• Technical advice in the areas of chemicals management and climate change, particularly the identification of priorities for training measures
and climate action in the private sector of Ghana.
• Support of the project management; close coordination and cooperation with the CAPCI team in headquarters in Germany
• Planning and implementation of training, advisory and other activities related to climate change mitigation in and with the chemical sector in
Ghana
• Networking and cooperation with relevant partners, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), including its Energy Service Centre (ESC), as much as individual companies from the chemical sector; organization
of stakeholder dialogues and exchange with different stakeholders
• Assist the project leader in monitoring and reporting.
• Formulation of learning experiences and best practices
• Contributions to publications and knowledge sharing
• Support logistic and organizational tasks, including travel arrangements for CAPCI events etc.; representation of the CAPCI project in Ghana
in defined occasions and meetings

Qualification Required & Experience

• University degree (master or equivalent) in chemistry, engineering, or relevant natural sciences or economic disciplines
• At least 5 years of experience in relevant areas such as chemical engineering, energy, circular economy or environmental management and climate change
• Broad knowledge and overview of the chemical industry (specifically of Ghana) / sustainable chemistry, industrial development, climate policies, environment, circular economy etc.
• Experiences in project management and international cooperation, including - if possible - public-private cooperation and stakeholder dialogues
Willingness to travel abroad and to project sites across the country
• Team worker with excellent communicative skills
• Very good English language skills, both written and spoken
