Job Vacancy For Underwriting Manager
Role Overview
•The Underwriting Manager will play a key role in managing and coordinating the technical underwriting and reinsurance placement activities under the GOGIP
•This role requires a proactive and commercially aware underwriting professional who can apply sound judgement, take ownership of work from start to finish and engage credibly with insurance and insurance markets on behalf of the Pool
•This is a hands-on role that calls for strong initiative, intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting and Risk Assessment
•Lead and support the underwriting of upstream oil and gas insurance risks in line with the GOGIP framework and agreed standards
•Review risk data, submission and technical documentation support and sound risk assessment and appropriate structuring
•Work closely with member companies on local capacity placement and maximize allocation efficiency
Reinsurance and Market Engagement
•Apply strong technical understanding of reinsurance structures, including facultative placements, market submissions, slips and placement approaches, to help shape placement strategy
•Lead the coordination and review of underwriting and reinsurance information to support effective broker-led placement across local and international markets
•Drive reinsurance placement to completion by proactively managing broker-led discussion, resolving issues and supporting conclusion of market negotiations
•Support the structuring and negotiation of terms, conditions and placement solutions in alignment with management direction and market objectives
Ownership and Execution
•Take ownership of underwriting tasks from start to finish with minimum supervision exercising professional judgment and initiative
•Coordinate timelines, follow-ups and information flow to ensure placements progress efficiently
•Identify gaps or issues early and propose practical solutions without waiting for instruction
Protocol and Process Stewardship
•Support the consistent application of GOGIP underwriting and placement protocols
•Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, market responses and placement outcomes
•Continuously review and improve GOGIP underwriting processes in line with relevant market development and industry trends
Learning and Capacity Development
•Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a commitment to building specialist expertise in upstream energy insurance and reinsurance
•Proactively develop technical understanding through independent study, market interaction and exposure to complex risks
•Apply learning quickly and confidently in live underwriting situations
•Contribute to industry capacity-building efforts to in energy insurance in Ghana
Stakeholder Engagement
•Represent GOGIP professionally in interactions with member insurers, brokers, regulators and other institutional stakeholders
•Support management and the board with clear underwriting input where required

Qualification Required & Experience
•A university degree in insurance, business, finance, engineering or a related discipline
•Professional insurance qualification (ACII, ACIIG, CIP or equivalent)
•8 to 12 years experience in underwriting or a related insurance role
•Strong grounding in insurance fundamentals, including policy structures, limits, deductibles and claims considerations
Desirable (but not mandatory)
•Exposure to energy, oil and gas, marine, engineering or large commercial risks
•Exposure to reinsurance placements and engagement with reinsurers
•Experience operating in a regulated or multi-stakeholder environment
