Job Description

• The Vice-Chancellor is the academic and administrative head of the University and is accountable to the Governing Council
• The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University and has authority over all employees of the University and the student body, subject to the Act and Statutes of the University
• The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for the promotion of quality higher education and research and the provision of academic and administrative leadership
• The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for setting and implementing the agenda reflected by the University's broad strategic plans, initiating new directions in the academic development of the University and protecting the integrity of the University's processes
• The Vice-Chancellor is the public face of the University and represents the University to the outside world, speaking for the University of Media, Arts and Communication in the council of universities world-wide

Qualification Required & Experience

• Must be of unblemished character and have a high degree of personal integrity
• Must hold a PhD and be of professorial status in a relevant area of the University's mandate with extensive research experience
• Must be a distinguished scholar of international repute, who can inspire, direct and motivate employees in the drive to become a first-rate university that pursues excellence in research and professional education and training in the broad fields of communication and the creative arts, for societal transformation
• Must display creativity in vision
• Must have mature and sober judgement
• Must possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills and must be a team player
• Must have good business sense and the ability to manage large resources to achieve set goals
• Must be able to hold office for a period of 4 years, by the statutory retirement age of 60

Terms of Appointment

• To be determined by the Governing Council consistent with the University's Act and Statutes
• Salary and fringe benefits attached to the post are attractive
• Eligible for reappointment for another term only
