Job Vacancy For Head of Waste Management Department of MAs At Local Government Service (Nationwide Recruitment)



Job Purpose:
The Head of the Waste Management Department shall report to the Coordinating Director and shall advise on the provision of facilities, infrastructural services and programmes for effective and efficient waste management for the improvement in environmental sanitation, the protection of the environment and the promotion of public health.

Key Responsibilities/Job Summary:

•   Participates in the preparation of Composite Budget and Annual Action Plan for the MAs;
•   Provides technical support to the Metropolitan Assembly on the operation and maintenance of public toilets and related environmental sanitation;
•   Supervises and controls the operation of cesspool emptiers and allied equipment;
•   Supervises the receiving and provision of  adequate treatment and effective disposal of both solid and liquid waste;
•   Supervises the cleansing of drains, streets, markets and car parks;
•   Advises the Metropolitan Assembly on recycling and other uses of waste materials

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health Technology, Wastewater Management, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline;
•   A Master's (MSc, MPhil) or its equivalence from a recognized University shall be an added advantage,
•   A minimum of eight(8) years working experience with two (2) years in a managerial position  (Senior Grade, it's equivalent or above)
•   Working knowledge of Local Government System;
•   A staff of Local Government Service, and
•   A member of a recognized professional body.
•   Working Knowledge of concepts, principles and approaches to Environmental Management;
•   Ability to facilitate collaboration across teams to achieve a common goal.
•   Ability to initiate, define and address high-level challenges and opportunities;
•   Ability to use variety of communication vehicles to promote dialogue and develop shared understanding and consensus;
•   Be able to analyze and synthesize information to understand issues, identify options and support sound decision making;
•   Must be computer literate.
