Job Vacancy For Information Technology Officer



To support expansion of its activities a reputable company is seeking to recruit an IT officer (Hardware and Applications). The successful candidate shall undertake operational responsibilities.

Purpose of Job
The IT officer shall provide technical support in maintaining the computer networks/systems, hardware, software and database of large organizations - ensuring that they run smoothly.  S/he shall provide technical support and advice to computer users.

Reporting to the Head, IT, the IT officer shall perform among others the following key duties and responsibilities:

•   Daily backups of all data sources;
•   Support service of all units with service level agreement;
•   Liaising with Corenett to ensure smooth running of the mobile collection platform, Madiba;
•   Regular update of antivirus
•   Regular servicing of IT equipments
•   Installing and configuring computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, scanners and more
•   Planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance upgrades
•   Talking to clients and computer users to determine the nature of problems
•   Responding to breakdowns
•   Investigating, diagnosing and solving computer software and hardware faults
•   Ensuring systems security and database integrity
•   Repairing equipment and replacing parts
•   Supervising junior engineering and technical staff
•   Agreeing call-out timescales
•   Obtaining replacement for special components, fixtures or fittings
•   Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
•   Checking computer equipment for electrical safety
•   Maintaining records of software licences
•   Managing stocks of equipment, consumables and other supplies
•   Keeping accurate documentation of systems implementation, troubleshooting and steps towards restoration
•   Shift and on-call work may be required, particularly where computing equipment is in continual 24/7/365 operation.

Qualification Required & Experience

Interested candidates must have minimum relevant qualifications:

•   A degree is not always necessary, though graduates (particularly those with relevant qualifications) may be preferred.
•   Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE) qualification can be beneficial.
•   Previous work experience of at least 3 years in similar positions but particularly having been involved with customers and/or the general public shall be an advantage.
•   Consideration shall be given to individuals with good organizational skills, interpersonal skills, ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, excellent communication skills, tolerant and meticulous person, logical thinker and ability to manage pressure.
•   Fluency in spoken and written English is necessary.

Technical skills

•   Competency with managing client and server devices in a Microsoft Windows domain, utilizing at minimum these tools: MS Active Directory, MS Group Policy, MS File Services, MS Print Services, WSUS (Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 and above)
•   Good understanding of MS SQL Server 2008
•   Solid experience in MS Office package
•   Solid experience in MS-ISA 2006 or TMG Forefront 2010
•   Good understanding of Terminal Services, remote support via VNC, Teamviewer, logMein
•   Good understanding and practical deployment experience of Client Mobile messaging devices including Blackberry, iPhone, Android handhelds and Tablets
•   Good understanding of WLAN, voice over IP and IP-PBX appliances
•   Experience with VMWare ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V and similar server virtualization platforms
•   Strong knowledge of data networking, routers, proxy servers, wired and wireless
•   Skills with VPN client deployment and troubleshooting
•   Intermediate level Linux system administration, Visual-Basic (.Net) and web technology skills is an advantage
