Job Vacancy For Legal Advisor At Gold Fields Ghana



Gold fields Ghana is seeking to employ a Legal Advisor to support the Head of Legal and Compliance to provide a comprehensive legal advisory service to the company inclusive of but not limited to involvement in commercial, litigation, contractual and negotiations relating to the company and its associated companies.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Provide support to the Head of Legal and Compliance of the Company to carry out all activities relating to the legal function.
•   Draft, prepare and review legal documents and agreements.
•   Proactively ensure compliance in all areas of laws and regulations affecting Gold Fields Ghana operations to ensure legal documentations are in compliance with statutory requirements.
•   Liaise with external counsels to initiate, defend, and conduct legal action/litigation for and on behalf of the Company
•   Provide research support to the legal function.
•   Liaise with relevant department to ensure that where legal risks have been identifies, appropriate steps are taken to mitigate that risk.
•   Interpretation and advice on legislation and related regulatory directives.
•   Preparation of correspondence of legal character.
•   Advise on sanctions and other disciplinary measures and interpretation of Conditions of Service and Code of Ethics.
•   Provide legal counsel on actual on-going or anticipated issues.
•   Assist officers to understand how their functional areas are impacted by legislation.
•   Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the department for management meetings.
•   Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Legal

Qualification Required & Experience

The appointee should have:

•   LLB and qualified to practice law in Ghana.
•   4- 6 years post qualification experience.
•   Good understanding and working knowledge of especially corporate law, natural resource law,environmental law, commercial law and in general Ghanaian laws and regulations and must have previous experience in company secretaryship and related disciplines
•   Advanced communication skills including reading, comprehension, report writing, critical thinking and decision-making, negotiation, analytical and active listening and problem solving skills.
•   Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
•   Ability to interact with Senior and Line Managers in providing relevant legal, negotiations and compliance advice.
•   Ability to co-ordinate transactional work with attention to details.
•   Medical fitness for the position and environment.
•   A valid and current light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving light vehicles
