The Vibrant Village Foundation (VVF) is a private Foundation headquartered in Portland, Oregon State in the United States of America (U.S.A). Established in 2010, the Foundation provides direct assistance and grants to support Agriculture, Livelihoods, Health, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in marginalized and deprived communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. VVF has supported programs in over 22 countries since its inception. In Ghana, the Foundation has contributed significantly towards poverty reduction in the Fielmuo community in the Upper West region of Ghana.

Fielmuo is located in the Sissala West district and about 150km drive north of WA-the Upper West regional capital. VVF has facilitated the provision of safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH), education, health and vocational skills training to over 14,237 people in 18 communities in the Sissala West and Lambussie districts. We have been inspired by the impact of our interventions in the lives of vulnerable communities to scale up to other communities in the two districts through the implementation of the ‘Integrated Program for Economic and Social Transformation’ (IMPREST). The goal of the program is to contribute to poverty reduction, improved wellbeing and resilience of vulnerable populations through the implementation of multi-sectorial programs; Education and Child Protection, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Livelihoods, Food Security and Empowerment of Women.

Position: Livelihood, Food Security and Empowerment (LIFE) Coordinator
Location: WA, with frequent travel to the field (Lambussie and Sissala West Districts)
Reporting to: Country Program Director
Supervisory: Supervise Field Officers
Relationships: Program Coordinators and Finance and Administrative Officer

Livelihood, Food Security and Empowerment Coordinator:

We are searching for experienced and innovative professional to lead our Livelihood, Food Security and Empowerment (LIFE) team in the Upper West region. The post-holder shall oversee the overall management and supervision of the Livelihoods, Food Security and Women empowerment program in the Sissala West and Lambussie districts. He/ She shall ensure the accomplishment of the goal and objectives of the LIFE program within agreed budgets and timelines. The specific roles and responsibilities of the post-holder are:

Quality Assurance

• Work closely with the Program Director to further refine and evolve the program strategy and design centred around the principles of Agroecology and sustainable agriculture
• Provide leadership and expertise on the topic of sustainable agriculture
• Liaise with Field Officers and Coordinators to agree on program quality standards or criteria
• Work closely with the MEAL Coordinator to develop a strong M&E framework for the LIFE program and to design the appropriate data collection tools to use in the field.
• Provide technical support in the establishment of farmer- groups and associations
• Facilitate the development of by-laws to guide the operations of farmer groups
• Develop and oversee the implementation of quarterly and annual work plans and budgets in collaboration with the Program Director and Finance Officer
• Improve/develop the capacity of Farmer groups to adopt sustainable Agricultural systems
• Identify and develop viable off-farm and agro-businesses targeting small scale farmers especially women
• Undertake regular monitoring and compilation of data on lessons learned from project implementation
• Develop and manage a system of responding to feedback and complaints from beneficiaries
• Provide targeted technical assistance to program staff through field visits and mentoring to enhance quality standards and judicious use of resources
• Prepare quality and timely progress reports as per agreed standards
• Develop and share case studies from project implementation

Program Management:

• Line manage Field Officers
• Conduct regular appraisal of staff and develop training plan to improve their efficiency
• Ensure the efficient use of program resources
• Ensure that financial policies and guidelines of VVF Ghana are strictly adhered
• Ensure that resources and processes are sufficient to achieve program objectives and activities in line with work plans
• Supervise and monitor compliance of staff and VVF associates to Child Protection, Gender, Sexual harassment and Anti-fraud policies.

Leadership and Coordination:

• Provide transparent and accountable leadership to staff and stakeholders
• Represent VVF at partner coordination meeting in consultation with the Program Director
• Liaise with Program Director and Finance Officers to ensure the timely release of funds for program activities
• Liaise with Program Director and Finance Officer to ensure timely release of funds for project activities
• Maintain good working relations with relevant government line ministries and private sector/research institutions to coordinate the adoption of new products and/or approaches in agriculture development
• Participate in Senior Management Meeting (SMT)

Qualification Required & Experience

Profile and experience of the post-holder

• Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural economics or related field
• Advanced degree is an added advantage
• At least 4 years’ experience in Conservation Agriculture and Agroecology
• Ability to work with multi-ethnic and culturally diverse stakeholders
• Analysis and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment
• Experience in project cycle management
• Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English required
• Ability to Speak Sissali and/or Dagaare language will be an added advantage
• Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
• Strong commitment to improving the well-being of families in rural communities.
