The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) (www.cocoainitiative.org) seeks a Livelihoods Associate to support its operations in Ghana.

Under the management of the ICI National Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the Livelihoods Associate will be responsible initiating, executing, monitoring, collecting data and reporting on interventions related to the Income Generation Activities / Livelihood activities and child protection in accordance with ICI’s programme objectives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

•   Assist the Programme Coordinator with the planning and implementation of Income generating activities (IGA) and Livelihood interventions in the communities.
•   Liaise with ICI’s implementing partner and Direct Implementation staff in work related to IGA.
•   Monitor IGA activities in the communities including collection of regular data on progress of the activities.
•   Create marketing linkages between IGA beneficiaries and prospective buyers Prepare activity reports, success stories, documenting best practices and other necessary materials from implementation of activities in the communities and facilitate their dissemination to the relevant partners and beneficiaries
•   Make recommendations for improvement of IGA in the communities, including within ICI’s other projects
•   Collaborate with the community and district-based stakeholders including Municipal Assembly for successful implementation of the project activities
•   Exercise oversight responsibility for the efficient and effective management of resources allocated to IGA.
•   Prepare financial reports from project activities;
•   Other assigned duties

Applicant must have

•   Excellent knowledge of implementing income generation activities at the community level.
•   Knowledge of the concepts of child protection and child labour including its causes, dimensions and effects;
•   Knowledge of international and national laws and policies on child labour;
•   A strong knowledge of the cocoa sector;
•   Knowledge of data collection and analysis;
•   Skills and proven experience in programme development and monitoring, report preparation and knowledge documentation;
•   Experience of partnership development;
•   Experience in working at community level;
•   Experience in preparing and facilitating training;
•   Very strong written and verbal communications skills in English;
•   Have good people management skills;
•   Be able to initiate action at short notice, produce high quality results and able to work independently, as well as be a good team player;
•   Be competent in Office Suites (Word, Excel, Power Point, conversant with using the internet).

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicant must have:

•   A Bachelor’s Degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics, Development Planning Business Administration, or Social Sciences or equivalent.
•   At least 4 years working experience in the development or social sector.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

•   The position is foreseen to be based in Accra (subject to change in the future) and will involve extensive travel to ICI operational areas throughout Ghana.

LANGUAGES:  Fluency in written and spoken English, and a Ghanaian language preferably Twi.
