Central University College, an acredited Christian University invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following vacant position in the School of Applied Sciences (SAS):
Main Duties:
The ideal candidate will be expected, among other roles to:
• Performs tests amd procedures as laid in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train others on the job
• Undertake analytical taskss within tight turnaround times and assist junior laboratory staff working under their supervision.
• Accurately and safely use and carry out routine maintenance and performance checks on equipment with minimal supervision and report faults to Unit Supervisor.
• Make use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (where available) for data management in accordance with authorized protocols.
• Carry out appropriate tests to confirm the identity of micro-organisms.
• Carry out appropriate antimicrobial sensitivity tests.
COMPETENCES – GENERAL
• Capable of maintaining effective communication with colleagues and other professional groups and clients
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisdplinary team of health workers in the facility
• Capable of keeping up-to-date on job related issues as appropriate.
• Capable of complying with all GHS Quality Assurance Policy guidelines and work within the prescribed quality standards for the laboratory service,
• Capable of collecting data for quality control audits on the operations of the laboratory.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCES
• Ability to work in accordance with GHS Code of Professional Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure.
• Capable of strictly adhering to the provisions of the Patient’s Charter.
• Capable of participating in National Health Programmes as directed.
Qualification Required & Experience
Applicants must have:
• A Technician Diploma/Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent and at least ONE (1) year period of internship at a recognized health facility.
• General knowledge and practical analytical skills in Microbiology, Hematology/Biood Transfusion, Chemical Pathology & Histopathology/Cytology Knowledge of Health and Safety and Quality Assurance issues.
