Job Vacancy For Project Drivers At Millennium Villages Project (Northern Ghana)



Background:

In an effort to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goals in the northern savannah ecological zone, the Government of Ghana through the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) partnered with UK Aid, and Millennium Promise to implement the Millennium Villages Project in 35 communities located in the West Mamprusi, Mamprugu Moaduri and Builsa south districts. The MV area represents the poorest sections of the three District Assemblies.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the duties and responsibilities of the Project Driver shall include the following amongst others:

•   Under limited direction, the driver will demonstrates a high level of driving skills in undertaking a broad range of driving tasks.
•   Responsible for collecting and delivering supplies.
•   Acting as a guide to visitors to MVP
•   Drive vehicles for the transport of personnel and the collection of mails, documents and other items.
•   Responsible for day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle (check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.), perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
•   Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
•   Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident.
•   Performs other official duties as and when required.

Terms of offer:

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Completion of full secondary school education, coupled with relevant driving training as appropriate.  This may require higher levels of driving license, e.g. public service vehicles license.
•   Valid driver license and certificate of good conduct portraying a good safety record, and display a high level of courtesy to other road users and pedestrians.
•   A very good command of English with excellent oral and written communication skills and at least 5 years’ relevant experience.
•   Ability to demonstrate well-developed initiative and judgment in their approach to work and in particular, a demonstration of strong concern for safety in all aspects of their work.
•   Excellent interpersonal skills

Knowledge:

•   Possess expert knowledge of driving techniques relevant to the vehicles they drive, a well-developed understanding of the mechanics of the broader range of vehicles particularly those aspects relating to safety, basic maintenance and reliability.
•   Possess a good understanding of the legal issues relating to operating a motor vehicle in the country.
