The CSIR is a semi-autonomous Corporation with the mandate to pursue the implementation of Government policies on scientific research and development; encourage coordination of scientific research for the management, utilization and conservation of the natural resources of Ghana; and to advise Government on scientific and technological advances likely to be of importance to national development. Established in its present form in October 1968 as Ghana's premier S & T Research and Development organisation, the CSIR now operates under the mandate of CSIR Act 521 of 1996, which among other things, empowers it to commercialize its research activities. From its Head Office in Accra, the CSIR oversees and co-ordinates the activities of 13 research institutes spread across the country.

Job Title: Project Manager (Savannah Agricultural Research Institute)

Mandate of Institute of Industrial Research (IIR)

The mandate of IIR is to undertake research into process and product design and development, and to promote adaptive technology, scientific instrumentation and calibration, as well as repair of precision equipment. The Institute aims to drive national development and global competitiveness in industry through scientific and technological research.

Job Summary

The Project Manager will work under the direction of the Scientific Coordinator. She/he will be responsible for:

•   The coordination and management of the implementation of project activities including establishing and. maintaining linkages with relevant partners and other stakeholders
•   Development of implementation plans for the delivery of key project activities and outputs
•   Serving as the principal point of contact for the funding agency and the research institution responsible for the impact evaluation of the project
•   Organising periodic review and planning meetings for the project
•   Lead out in the identification and incubation of a private sector partner in consultation with the Scientific Project Coordinator for the operation of the inoculant plant
•   Submission of technical and financial reports to the funding agency through CSIR-SARI
•   Liaise with the Scientific Project Coordinator in mobilizing all resources for project implementation
•   Working with the Scientific Project Coordinator and Assistant coordinators to ensure the timely delivery of field activities such as:
1) Working with farmers, research scientists, extension agents and development partners,
2) Establishing and maintaining contacts with farmers and Farmer Based Organizations.
3) Exchanging knowledge with farmers,
4) Assisting in data collection and analysis.
5) Training in technical and-business component of the project,
6) Monitoring and evaluation of field trials and demonstrations.

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicants should have the following qualifications and experience:

•   MSc in agriculture, environment and related subjects
•   Minimum of 2-5 years working in a managerial position in rural development projects, and preferably with a multi-disciplinary teams
•   Experience working with the private sector
•   Experience working on a donor funded project
•   Strong project management skills, with focus on managing for results and impacts
•   Fluency in English with excellent writing and communication skills.
•   Good skills in building and strengthening strategic partnership
•   Skill in the use of various computer softwares for data management, analysis and reporting
