Job Vacancy For Research Manager, College of Engineering At Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology



The College of Engineering (CoE) wishes to set up a Research Management Office under the Office of the Provost to assist with staff research. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Research Manager for the College of Engineering.

Job Purpose:
The Research Manager will provide support for the management of research and other projects in CoE. His/her duties will include providing project management and administrative support to staff related to planning, development and implementation of grants and research projects during both pre and post award stages.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•   Create and maintain a database of all research projects in the College
•   Develop systems to register, plan for, monitor and track all projects in COE and such system should have the ability to provide real time status of each project
•   Provide project management expertise, resources and administrative support for staff to accomplish their research and project objectives
•   For each research/project, identify the technical and financial reporting requirement and configure systems to comply
•   Identify funding opportunities and disseminate this information to staff
•   Work with potential Principal Investigators (PIs) and Project Directors (PDs) to
•   Develop and submit proposals
•   Liaise with PIs or PDs and their respective teams in the preparation of reports and ensure timely submissions
•   Ascertain project needs of staff who require support and take the necessary steps to get those needs addressed
•   Ensure that proper records are maintained for all research projects at the CoE
•   Prepare periodic reports on the research and project activities in CoE
•   Ensure that all research activities comply with sponsor, institutional and national requirements
•   Prepare and maintain a database of expertise profile in the College
•   Market the research expertise available in the College

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Must have a Master's degree from a recognized university in Project Management, Business Administration, Strategic Management, Development Planning or an equivalent
•   A degree in Engineering will be an advantage

Experience

•   Five years experience in research and/or project management
•   Prior experience as Project Manager for donor-funded research projects, grants or similar development projects

Technical Competencies

•   Computer literacy with expertlse.in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, E-mail, Internet, etc.
•   Expertise in Project Management Software
•   Knowledge in Office Practice and basic bookkeeping
•   Knowledge in engineering or proven ability to quick learning
•   High level of proficiency in both written and spoken English

Duration of Position:- Two (2) Years in the first instance
