Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is the local chapter of Transparency International (TI), the global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption. GII seeks to fight corruption and promote good governance in the daily lives of people and institutions by forging strong, trusting and effective partnerships with government, business and civil society and engagement with people.

About the Position

One of the core areas of GII’s work is to conduct research to increase knowledge of current trends in governance and anti-corruption and also gather evidence to inform strategic advocacy interventions in the fight against corruption. In light of the above, GII is seeking to engage a Research Officer with extensive experience to lead its research work.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Officer shall perform the following duties:

• Lead the conduct and delivery of GII’s research projects/activities including proposal development, research design, desk studies, literature reviews, training, data collection, analysis, report writing, etc.;
• Develop new research proposals to seek funding;
• Formulate and package research findings for dissemination and support the presentation and communication of the findings to stakeholders;
• Lead the identification of policy gaps from research findings and use information to develop policy briefs for advocacy;
• Assist GII’s monitoring and evaluation activities including the conduct of baseline surveys;
• Develop and maintain a research database on current trends in the anti-corruption space in order to develop relevant policy contents for GII’s advocacy;
• Conduct extensive online literature searches and reviews, maintain an updated online presence and contribute to the development of press releases and issues briefs for engagements with stakeholder’s;
• Support the development knowledge management materials, conference abstract and project presentations as well as other knowledge management products;
• Present research papers at GII meetings and to external stakeholders;
• Build capacity of other GII staff and volunteers on current trends in the research space to facilitate data gathering and report writing;
• Attend workshops, seminars, public fora on behalf of GII as directed by the Executive Director.

Qualification Required & Experience

The Research Officer must have the following essential qualities to qualify for consideration:

• At least a Master’s Degree in Political Science, Development Studies, Social Studies or other related fields
• Five (5) years relevant professional experience with three (3) years continues practice in a similar capacity
• Demonstrated skills in research (quantitative and qualitative) from proposal design, implementation of field activities, analysis and report writing;
• Excellent numeracy skills, including advanced knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), STATA and other tools for analysis
• Ability to analyse complex data, summarize and communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences
• Strong project management skills
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to deliver training
• Prior work experience in civil society and NGO sector
• Relevant working experience in national and local governance and civil society work
• The successful candidate must also have experience in community assessment of services, using Participatory Rural Appraisal and Participatory Poverty Assessment methods including the use of Community Score Card and other developments tools and methods

Other Attributes

• Clear understanding of governance issues with particular reference to anti-corruption in Ghana
• Ability to work with minimum supervision is critical
• Ability to contribute to the development of a fundraising approach with regards to the donor community and to develop fundraising tools and mechanisms.
• Good team player and time management skills
• Capable of working under pressure and against deadlines
