The position holder is responsible for:

• Assisting the implementation of the Global Initiative for Agriculture and Food (GIAE) and its activities in the maize and rice value chain in Ghana, with a focus on marketing, markets and business development
• Supporting the Team leader of the GIAE country Programme in his tasks to promote relevant subject areas in the Ghanaian agricultural and food sector
• Liaising with political partners at the national, regional and district level
• Creating and maintaining good working relations with the project partners, the contractor, the consultants, relevant farmer organisations, private sector associations and companies in agricultural production, processing and marketing
• Designing, supervising and monitoring the implementation of cooperation and service contracts with various partners concluded directly via GIZ
• Ensuring quality of report from implementing partners, matching grant partners and service providers
• Supporting the M&E officer of GIC and report monitoring data
• Serving as link to German bilateral market oriented agriculture program and to other GIX projects especially in the agricultural sector
• Identifying and promoting innovations in the areas of responsibility and knowledge management

Tasks

In the context of his/her responsibilities, the position holder fulfils the following core scope of tasks

Professional advisory services

• Identifies needs for external support and advice, works on policy recommendations and develops a strategic approach for the development of the rice and maize value chains with a focus on marketing, markets and business development
• Provides professional advice to partners and cooperates with important stakeholders, on order clarification, identifying needs, developing concepts and strategies and providing technical input
• Advises value chain committees, associations and interest groups of farmers, processors, traders and other stakeholders forming part of the value chain selections
• Supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to add value to the GIC target groups in the value chains rice and maize
• Assist to develop and implement mechanization concepts for maize and rice smallholders
• Contributes to preparing and implementing the coordination process, joint project/programme activities and work in the regions
• Formulates job descriptions and terms of reference and selects and supervises third parties while carrying out project/programme activities, including performance evaluations
• Monitors the development and implementation of project/programme plans and activities in close consultation with counterparts
• Deals with the designs, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars and other events on issues related to the project/programme's area of activity
• Develops and organises quality assurance measures and suggests necessary changes, improvements and initiatives
• Monitors project progress and the activities of components, reviews reports and documents on the progress of programmes, identifies bottlenecks and recommends alternative management options to the team leader
• Ensures that the services provided by the project are aligned with the partner's needs

Qualification Required & Experience

• MSc or doctorate Degree in agricultural sciences, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering or equivalent degree in economic or political science, business administration or other relevant education with a focus on a relevant field in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives

professional Experience

• 5 to 7 years proven professional working experience, in the Ghanaian agricultural and/or food sectors, preferably in business-related organisations or projects with at least 3 years professional experience in a comparable position
• Professional experience in marketing of agricultural products and local market development

Other knowledge, additional competences

• Very good working knowledge of ITC technoligies (related software, email, the internet, social media) and computer applications (e.g MS Office)
• A proven track record in a managerial position
• Fluent written and oral knowledge of English, a working knowledge of German is an asset
• Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to tbe performed corresponding measures are agreed with management
