Job Vacancy For WASH Coordinator At World Vision International (Savelugu, Northern Region)



World Vision International is a Christian Relief, Development and Advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

For over three decades, World Vision has been working with rural communities in all the 10 Administrative Regions of Ghana to provide portable water, promote sanitation and hygiene practices, quality education, particularly at the basic level, enhance food security and respond to disasters.

Job Title: WASH Coordinator

To work with Development Facilitators for WASH in the ADPs to ensure sustainable water and sanitation service delivery and hygiene behaviour change practices by providing leadership for innovative planning, implementation, coordination, harmonisation and accurate/reliable reporting on the software components of the GI-WASH Programme (largely covers community development, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation (including updating of the GIS Database)) of WASH services.

Major Responsibilities

•   Develop Annual Workplans that reflect SMART activities and relevant objectives in sufficient detail and provide guidelines for the preparation of realistic budgets for software activities in the ADPs
•   Facilitate the selection of project communities based on a defined criteria to maximise benefits of interventions coordinate hygiene education and sanitation promotion activities by ADPs using appropriate approaches and tools e.g. PHAST, CLTS, SLTS F- Diagrams
•   Assess the capacity needs of staff and plan/facilitate coordinated tailor made training programmes for ADPs especially the DFs for WASH in relevant thematic areas including community mobilisation, Water and Sanitation Management, Hygiene and Sanitation/CLTS, Facilitation Skills, Operation and
•   Maintenance Management of Water and Sanitation services, and Monitoring and Evaluation of Water and Sanitation Systems.
•   Build and sustain strategic partnerships to support the implementation of project activities and for the development of the WASH sector. Key partners in this regard include but not limited to the District Assembly, Community Water and Sanitation
•   Agency, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, CONI-WAS, Ghana Water Forum, UNICEF, Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate, Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing, Water Resources Commission, Universities and Research Institutions.
•   Support the DM&E Specialist to develop Progress implementation tracking table for all software activities to be incorporated into the overall Project Implementation Plan
•   Support the DM&E Specialist to collect, collate and enter Baseline Data and produce WASH Baseline Report for the ADPs Project Communities
•   Produce harmonised activity/process reports from all ADPs. E.g. Training of Pump volunteers, CLTS implementation, monitoring data collection etc. and ensure that Project Progress Reports contain accurate and reliable data, which can be easily aggregated from one quarter to the other and from year to year.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Planning, or other relevant Social Sciences. Master’s Degree is a plus.
•   Experience: 5 years of experience in WASH or related work

Competencies / Attributes

•   Demonstrable familiarity of the WASH sector and the policy environment for WASH in Ghana
•   Ability to conceptualise community development and capacity building strategies/initiatives for WASH
•   A thorough understanding of hygiene and sanitation promotion and community participatory and behaviour change approaches (e.g. PHAST, CLTS, C4D,etc)
•   Strong experience in community development work
•   Experience in interaction with local authorities and NGOs.
