Other responsibilities include:

•  Identify report and investigate incidents and hazards within established systems
•  Ensure all reported hazards are, at a minimum, controlled immediately
•  Respond to emergency situations using established procedures
•  Monitor activities of direct reports to ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Policies, Environmental Management System and Environmental Policy are adhered to
•  Comply with and enforce Company rules, standards and policies
•  Be responsible to provide information, instructions and training to employees in relation to Occupational Health and Safety in their area of responsibility
•  Check that the workplace in their area of responsibility complies with Company standards
•  Ensure faculty or damaged equipment is reported and repaired
•  Provide training to all employees under the supervisors care where needed
•  Actively promote interaction and cooperation between all Business Units

Quality Assurance:

•  Understand and comply with quality system documentation, policies and procedures
•  Ensure all scheduling requirements are met
•  Control and monitor all Ship mooring, ship loading, stacking, reclaiming and train unloading
•  Ensure the safe separation of mobile equipment and balanced machines
•  Operators will use initiative to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel who are working at the Port by ensuring that all activities carried out are strictly in accordance with:
a) Operating Standards
b) Associated Work Instructions and documented Procedures
c) Monitor all Port requirements on a daily basis
d) Monitor and actively ensure site housekeeping standards are maintained
e) Monitor and take appropriate action to minimize dust generation
f) Submit fault reports on the radio network and all other electronic reporting/recording systems
•  Liaise with Maintenance personnel for maintenance and repairs of equipment to maximize Port efficiencies
•  Input data, initiate incident reports, maintaining data and report as required

The authority of the position extends throughout Port Operations and other incumbent of the position may:

•  Have absolute authority over all movements, including stopping any movement at any time within the Port
•  Have total authority over the use of the Port Radio System
•  Have freedom to utilise skills to develop and initiate alternate plans resulting from equipment failure or manning shortfalls to maximize production and minimize Production losses

Qualification Required & Experience

African Minerals, currently requires qualified PORT SHIFT OPERATORS for their Iron Ore operation in Pepel, Sierra Leone.

•  Matric plus relevant technical diploma required
•  Responsible for the safe operations of ship loaders, bucket wheel reclaimers, train unloading systems, conveyor systems. Will also be required to operate other machinery, example, CAT992 & Skid Steer Loaders
•  Must have experience with SCADA type control system
