Job Summary:

•   Organising and conducting monthly field trips to cocoa growing regions independently.
•   Conducting monthly data collection (quantitative and qualitative) of cocoa farms and farm conditions in order to support the Cocoa Market research
•   Spending one week per month up-country
•   Visting cocoa farms and quantifying and catergorising findings
•   Measuring and evaluating overall conditions of the farms
•   Holding discussions with farmers in order to get to know other relevant factors impacting the crop
•   Systematically documenting field observations and writing regular reports
•   Maintaining and working with all data for weighbridge activities concerning crop
•   Following up on stack reconciliation with warehousing subcontractors
•   Preparing weekly stock delivery, planning stock delivery, planning stock delivery together with operations department and warehousing subcontractors in addition to following up on on a daily basis
•   Participating in monthly stocktaking

Qualification Required & Experience

The ideal candidate must have:

•   A University degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or similar from a well-known institution
•   A minimum of 2 years working experience in the cocoa industry, e.g field work, dealing with cocoa farmers, sustainability matters
•   Proven interest in the cocoa industry
•   Ability to work without supervision
•   Be computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Excel
•   Good interpersonal and communication skills
•   Clean driver’s license
•   Fit and in good physical condition
•   Fluent in English language
•   Pro-active, systematic, practical problem-solving skills and hands-on attitude

JOB SUMMARY

•   The Project Officer reports to the Governance and Advocacy Specialist. The position is based in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region. S/He will be responsible to oversee MMDA level activities, provide technical capacity building to partner MMDAs and CSOs, provide monitoring support to field implementers, collaborate with project technical team at the Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) for activity planning and delivery, support M&E data gathering, ensure that regional, district and community level implementation is aligned to NGGA program strategies and write reports to the PCU in Tamale. S/he is also responsible for facilitating adequate communication, team building, accountability, monitoring, and effective collaboration between partners and stakeholders during project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

•   Facilitate enhanced understanding of agricultural sector policies that supports the livelihood enhancement and empowerment of farmers particularly women.
•   Provide technical support to partners and communities to effectively engage with key actors within the agric sector.
•   Identify skill and knowledge gaps of farmers, technical staff and other stakeholders that need to be addressed in order for them to effectively engage for value-added service delivery.
•   Support and facilitate partners to review legislation, customs, methods and community plans for improved productivity environment and agricultural value chain promotion.
•   Strengthen community structures to address needs of smallholder /women farmers.
•   Create platforms at community and MMDA levels to establish horizontal and vertical dialogue between and among  interest groups to provide access to information, and promote social accountability for improved quality of services
•   Work with local implementing partner and field based staff to provide information to farmers to facilitate adoption of appropriate policy, agronomic and management practices to meet environmental and quality standards of production.
•   Provide technical capacity building to women groups and other target partners
•   Support advocacy activities to ensure women’s engagement and voice in agricultural policies and services
•   Facilitate the establishing and/or strengthening of district and regional based “women in agriculture” platforms
•   Facilitate the establishing and/or strengthening of district and regional based “women in agriculture” platforms.
•   Monitor the gender responsiveness of MMDA agricultural plans, budgets and service delivery through gender audits.
•   Organise feedback interface sessions between MMDAs and women activists to report on the audit results

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A minimum qualification of a first degree in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management or social Sciences
•   Masters degree in Social Sciences, Agriculture or Natural Resource Management will be an added advantage

Skills and Experience

•   At least 5 years progressive experience in the area of project management and promoting gender equality,
•   Experience in working with local communities, partnership with local NGOs/ and District Assemblies structures
•   Knowledgeable in food security, gender and nutrition issues

•   The Regional M&E Officer is responsible for supporting project teams and stakeholders, data collection and capacity building of stakeholders as well as project documentation and dissemination to guide program management in the achievement of the overall goal of Northern Ghana Governance Activity (NGGA).The position is based in Bolgatanga and would undertake regular travel to the communities and operational area of the project in Upper East region. The regional M & E Officer will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

•   Management and Coordination of all NGGA M&E related Programmes and Activities in the Upper East region;
•   Assist partner CSOs to Develop Mechanisms for Promoting Citizen-based Monitoring and Evaluation of agricultural Policies and Programmes in the region;

Continuous Monitoring and data collection:

•   Carry out Joint Periodic Field Monitoring Visits to verify Project Implementation;
•   Work with CSOs and Communities in the region to ensure Participation and Monitoring of Digital –E platform;
•   Carry out Periodic Compilation, Synthesis and Analysis of Regional Level Data;
•   Prepare Periodic Reports on findings of field visits with Geo-Tagged GPS Locations in Standardized Reporting Format for the MIS
•   Work as a regional focal person and support districts and community level CSOs including women led platforms in collecting, tracking and reporting of district Level Monitoring Data;

Support M&E Strategy

•   Provide Lead in the implementation of Zonal Level Three Pronged M & E Strategy, which includes (a) Measuring of Impact and Outcomes of the Project (b) CSO Monitoring of MMDA Capital Investment Projects and Campaigns in Districts of the Zone and (c) Direct Community Monitoring of MMDA agricultural projects and campaigns in districts within your region;
•   Gender Inclusiveness
•   Ensure gender sensitive and Inclusive M & E in the region by monitoring the needs of women and men, children and adults, the aged, people with disability and excluded in capital Projects;
•   Disseminate M&E results and information to staff at the community, district, Sub-office and head office as well as partners and project beneficiaries
•   Participate in forums to share program based information with stakeholders at the district, Sub office and national levels
•   Develop  quarterly impact measurement reports to keep clients informed on program activities and performance

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A minimum qualification of first degree in agricultural sciences, Development Planning, Statistics, Project Management or other related fields from a recognized University.

Skills and Experience

•   At least 3 years experience in project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation especially at the local level
•   Ability to ride a motorbike
•   Skills in developing appropriate data collection tools, and ability to assist in collecting required data, analyze, integrate and use such data to accurately identify and diagnose key issues and further assist in developing strategies and plan to resolve them

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING

Key Performance Areas

Membership and Business Support

•   Assessment of non-Fairtrade Certified organizations to gauge readiness for joining Fairtrade
•   Provide direct technical assistance to Members in development and roll out of business strategic plans, marketing plans related to business development and growth requirements
•   Act as a key point of contact for member and producer organization queries, ensuring that, as far as possible, issues are dealt with promptly and efficiently
•   Provides feedback to the Regional Cocoa manager on issues and trends in relation to the implementation of WACP.

Training of BSOs and TOT Interns

•   Support in developing TOT programmes for both BSOs and TOT Interns

Qualification Required & Experience

Minimum Academic Requirement

The post is located in the Regional Office for Africa in Accra, Ghana.

Reporting Lines:

•   The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) reports to the FAO Representative (FAOR).

Technical Focus:

•   Programme development, coordination and operational assistance based on the knowledge of the local conditions, culture, language and institutions of the country of assignment.

Key Results:

•   Effective and efficient coordination and provision of the technical and operational support of the programme and project activities of the FAO Representation

Key Functions:

•   Liaises and assists government authorities and local, national and international institutions in the areas of FAO’s activities in the country and with other UN agencies. He/she may represent FASO at inter-agency meetings as required;
•   Promotesthe image of FAO through advocacy of the Organization’s mandate, programmes, national priorities and activities including development and maintenance of communication tools such as website, press releases and publications, and support the implementation of FAO’s regulatory framework (codex Alimentarius, Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, Safe Use of Pesticides, etc.) in the country;
•   Coordinates the collection, consolidation and maintenance of country data on food, crops, livestock, forestry and fisheries including information on external aid in FAO’s corporate systems and monitor changes in national policies affecting the agricultural sector;
•   Participates in producing technical, economic and policy studies as required and developing country level development frameworks such as the Country Programming Framework (CPF) and the United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAF);
•   Participates in the identification, formulation and preparation of programme and project proposals and monitor and review the status of programme/project implementation to ensure that all operational activities are carried out in line with the work plan and the project document; identify inconsistencies and delays and, when necessary, propose corrective measures to overcome operational constraints;
•   Briefs, trains and supervises lower grade level programme staff regarding all aspects of the job. Ensures adherence to procedures and work requirements and accuracy and diligence of the work provided.
•   Performs other duties as required

Specific Functions:

•   Supports the FAOR to regularly monitor and facilitate meeting deadlines on key deliverables, project results and main targets;
•   Supports the FAOR to ensure the result based deliverables of FAO projects and Programme in the country;
•   Assists the FAOR in developing and promoting the country resource mobilization strategy and contribute to fund mobilization efforts through liaison with the donor community in the country; and formulate pipeline projects as appropriate

Qualification Required & Experience

•   National of the country of assignment
•   University degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, or any other field related to the work of the Organization
•   Four years of relevant experience in agricultural development and/or project implementation in an area of FAO’s activities in the country OR Advanced University degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, or any other field related to the work of the Organization and two years of relevant experience in agricultural development and/or project implementation in an area of FAO’s activities in the country
•   Working knowledge (Level C) of English language
•   Working knowledge of local languages

Technical/Functional Skills:

•   Extent of experience in and ability to negotiate and cooperate with national government officials, Inter-governmental Organizations and other institutions and in designing collaborative networks and joint programmes

Description

•   This agronomist position will advise producers on agrochemical producers on agrochemical products, seed, fertiliser.
•   This position will perform field and issue testing and monitor and make recommendations on insects, diseases and weeds.
•   In addition, this position will sell producers the best quality products to meet their operational needs, conduct demonstration plots and participate in producer meetings.

Responsibilities / Duties

•   Determine technological processes for planting, fertilisation, and plant protection of crops including seed treatments.
•   Management of agro-technical processes in the cultivation of crops.
•   Determine cultivation methods for crops on different plots of land, under varying soil conditions.
•   Make decisions and recommendations on planting seed, crop protection and harvest timing of grain.
•   Select the Right Product, Right Acre approach to chemicals, seed, fertiliser and other materials required for plant growth.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Bachelor’s or associate degree in agronomy or a related area, such as soil conservation, agricultural education, or general agricultural education, or general agriculture.
•   Certified crop advisor (CCA) or Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) is a bonus
•   Minimum of five (5) years experience
•   Agrochemical or crop protection sales experience is a plus
