Reports to: Zone Asset & Fleet Maintenance Supervisor (English West Africa)

The Role:
To provide engineering leadership, product development & improvement, and field technical support for mechanical maintenance, to safely maintain the Drilling Services fleet of drills, vehicles and ancillary equipment to ensure its safe and efficient utilization. This will include the completion of maintenance records, logs, certificates and documentation as required; ensuring statutory requirements are maintained for respective equipment.

Descriptions of Job

LV/Truck Mechanic

•  Lead in the performance of both preventive and breakdown maintenance on all light vehicles, trucks and ancillary equipment in a safe and environmentally friendly manner to ensure high equipment safety, reliability and availability

Workshop Mechanic (2 positions)

•  Operate and maintain workshop equipment
•  Carry out scheduled servicing to rigs and ancillary equipment in a safe and environmentally friendly manner and in accordance with the service sheet
•  Respond to equipment breakdowns and utilise skill and experience to create minimum downtime on machinery

General Duties:

•  Ensure correct recording of maintenance is achieved
•  Read and Interpret Service and Spare parts manuals
•  Report all equipment faults or repairs to Maintenance Supervisor for scheduling
•  Ensure site and maintenance procedures are maintained
•  Assist with training of other tradesmen to encourage a team environment
•  Carry out all repairs in accordance with Boart Longyear Maintenance procedures
•  Complete all service sheets and document additional repairs completed during servicing
•  Maintain a high level of housekeeping in workshop and working areas at all times
•  Advise the maintenance supervisors of parts used and any additional part requirements
•  Must ensure inspections and safety checks are carried out on all equipment before use
•  Must ensure that all tools are serviceable and safe

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Holder of at least Motor Vehicle Technicians  II certificate
•  A HND certification in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage
•  Over 3 years’ experience in a similar role
•  Must maintain a high standard of housekeeping
•  High degree of skill in troubleshooting problems on electric/ hydraulic drilling equipment
•  Good knowledge of truck maintenance
•  Competent on Auto Electrics, Hydraulic Circuits and Diesel engine maintenance.
•  Self-starter that will work with little supervision
•  Willing to take courses to further improve skills
•  Ability and willingness to train co-workers when required

Key Responsibilities: –
Reporting to the General Manager – Tarkwa Gold Mine, key responsibilities will include:

•  Developing and implementing required strategies for establishing and improving the Business Improvement Capability in Tarkwa
•  Implementing an appropriate Business Improvement framework (policies, procedures and processes) for the mine through well designed and well executed Business Improvement activities
•  Reviewing the Business Improvement activities in line with the short, medium and long-term objectives, and ensuring that these are aligned with the business objectives of the relevant business units on Tarkwa Mine
•  Ensuring alignment of business improvement priorities by the development, growth and maintenance of strong working relationships with operational and Finance HODs

•  Accountable for ensuring strong organizational wiring including the implementation and cascading of results action reviews

Purpose of Role
To provide technical support to the mine operations team and oversight to the underground contractors’ mining activities. To follow, and ensure all Contractors compliance to established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments.   To ensure continued growth of the Mine Operations team and to maximize operational safety, efficiencies and profitability.

•  1.To assess and assist in the improvement of systems, programs or processes in mine operations
a)  Ensures contractor’s compliance to Company, Regulatory and Contractor’s own safety rules, policies, regulations and standard operating procedures
b)  Responsible for assessment of all activities and processes related to mine operations
c)  Answers queries and assists Mine Captains in handling  requests related to mine operations which includes problem solving and judgment

e)  Monitors contractor equipment availability and assess production priorities based on availability of equipment

Abosso Gold Fields Ltd – Damang Gold Mine, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited is a world-class operation, consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL Metallurgical Plant. The mine is located in tropical climate in the Western Region of Ghana.

Purpose of the Job:-
Abosso Gold Fields Ltd – Damang Gold Mine is currently seeking to employ a Chief Engineer to manage and control all engineering activities of its Process plant and Mine Infrastructure. These activities will include the management and control of a comprehensive maintenance and repair process pertaining to the Process Plant, mine infrastructure and the Town site at Damang Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for effective people management and machine safe practices in accordance with Gold Fields Ghana Standards and Procedures, effective operational cost control, sound equipment availability/reliability and performance, risk mitigating initiatives and contract management. The incumbent will also make use of his/her knowledge, skills and experience to identify, implement and manage continuous improvement projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Ensure sound principles of Health and Safety in line with Gold Fields Standards and Procedures
•  Ensure equipment availability and performance, risk mitigating initiatives and contract management meet approved targets
•  Ensure that effective engineering standards and procedures and developed, sustained and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements
•  Ensure operational cost control is maintained to set budget targets
•  Ensure effective liaison with Government agencies such as the Inspector of Machinery to ensure that engineering
•  Ensure effective training and development of staff is implemented and sustained to enhance staff technical ability in preparation for more senior positions
•  Ensure effective interaction with operational personnel is upheld to optimize equipment performance, reliability and utilization

Qualification Required & Experience

•  A tertiary qualification in the field of Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
•  A Government Certificate of Competency (Engineering Manager’s Certificate of Competency)
•  Work experience on gold process plant and equipment such as Krupp gyratory and Sandvik, Nordberg and Excel cone crushers, Polysius grinding mills, conveyor systems, CIL plant equipment including agitators, linear screens, Outotec thickeners, carbon regeneration kilns, elution circuit and electro-winning circuit
•  Sound process plant business acumen and the ability to influence the main cost drivers in this environment
•  Advanced level of technical communications, personal interaction and presentation skills
•  Results-orientation to achieve production targets whilst ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and standards
•  Strong organisational skills to manage all mine maintenance and project work
•  Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, as well as the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures
•  Computer literacy in Microsoft Office/Ms Project and a working knowledge of planned maintenance software packages (SAP PM)
•  Exposure to environmental awareness programs
•  Minimum of ten years in-field technical experience in a maintenance function on gold process plants
•  Minimum of three years senior management experience at the level of Chief Engineer or Plant Superintendent level supported by the relevant appointment documentation
•  Technical problem solving and failure analysis capabilities with special emphasis on crushers, grinding mills,
•  Conveyors, CIL and elution circuits and pumping circuits for slurry, water and reagents
•  Sound understanding of medium voltage power distribution networks and the supply and synchronization of emergency power generation with a national grid
•  Sound understanding of plant process control, instrumentation and SCADA systems
•  Medical fitness for the position and environment

Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will report to the Chief Metallurgist and will have the following responsibilities:

•  Ensure satisfactory documentation of all the safe operating procedures of the progress department
•  Assist in providing technical assistance/training to the plant operators in the areas of sampling and sample handling
•  Assist operation staff in optimizing plant performance as necessary
•  Monitor metallurgical parameters to ensure maximum gold recovery
•  Assist in reagents monitoring and usage levels in all the sections of the plant
•  Train plant operators on basic metallurgical practices – correct way of sampling, monitoring of control parameters etc
•  Oversee metallurgical test work programs and assist in implementing process changes to enhance plant performance
•  Maintain good documentation of all safety issues of the process department
•  Assist with the development of operational budgets and forecasts

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Must possess BSc in Mineral Engineering/Chemical Engineering
•  Minimum of 4 years working experience on a process plant
•  Flotation experience will be an advantage
