Job Summary: Responsible planning, leading, organizing and supervising the day to day activities of the workshop section, controlling the quality of repairs, implementation of HSEQ standards and performance appraisal of subordinates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•   Leads a group of mechanics and helpers within the company and other sites.
•   Performs trouble shooting and diagnostics procedure on vehicles and equipment
•   Record observations and findings during diagnostics run and decide on the correct method of repair as necessary
•   Ensure that warranties are properly followed up, monitored and documented.
•   Plan and organize Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) and delegate specific tasks to concerned section/mechanics
•   Hands-on supervision of all workshop activities, especially technical issues
•   Forecast and assist in ordering spare parts for specific jobs/special job or for stocks replenishment
•   Supervise and follow up on actual progress of each individual repair job
•   Provide on-the-job training as well as coaching and mentoring to mechanics and helpers
•   Follow up repair order, registering the time taken to complete each task
•   Responsible for Quality Assurance, reliability and dependability by providing all fields with the technical assistance that they require from the workshop
•   Evaluate the training requirements of subordinates and discuss/agree training needs with management
•   Attend the Weekly Departmental Meeting
•   Tests and approve operators for trucks, excavator, loader cranes, grader, backhoe, etc.
•   Responsible for the maintenance and conditioning of all equipment
•   Conduct final check/test driving for all vehicles/trucks prior to release
•   Assists with the interviewing and conducts hands-on testing of technical applicants
•   Conduct annual performance appraisal of all direct subordinates
•   Signs and full comply with company and departments policies and procedures
•   Conduct any other task given by the Deputy Managing Director

Relationships: The post holder will be accountable to the DMD and will have relationships with all workshop personnel, Site supervisors, Purchasing, Project, Maintenance, Drilling, and other colleagues at work.

Qualification Required & Experience

Work Experience: The applicant is to have a minimum of 5 Years’ experience leading a multi-cultural workshop team

Education: Professional technical qualifications in the vehicle and equipment domain.

Licenses/Certificates: Licensed Mechanic or equivalent with a full range of licenses to operate equipment.

POSITION NO: A52611

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

•   The incumbent serves as the Air-Conditioning Mechanic Foreman and supervises/coordinates activities of all tradesmen on his team; ensures that all installations, maintenance and repair work in all Mission residences and grounds are done to specification. Also maintains all records of work assignments, interprets blueprints, building plans, manufactures specifications, instruction and security regulations to workers and enforces adherence to safety regulations.

•   The incumbent uses proper tools and checks all work for completion; examines equipment or makes diagnostic tests to determine the nature and extent of work necessary.

•   S/he disassembles equipment and adjusts repairs or replaces defective parts or components to correct malfunction and also periodically inspects tests, cleans and services equipment.

•   The incumbent is required to work both day shift, swing shift and must be available for weekend and/or after normal duty hours work when required. Drives a vehicle to the job-site and/or supervise a trade helper.

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

•   EDUCATION: Completion of Secondary School or Vocational training in AC Mechanics is required.
•   EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years working experience in a large AC maintenance environment.
•   LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge). Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required. Job holder will be able to communicate effectively with staff and members of the public in the language. (Language proficiency will be tested).
•   SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have good written and oral skills in order to communicate effectively with subordinates, supervisors and clients. Must have standard level of keyboard and computer skills to include specialized software, database management, and spreadsheets for deliveries/supplies made. Must be able to read blueprints and interpret manufacturer’s instructions. (Typing and computer skills will be tested). Must possess a valid local driver’s license (Class B).
•   JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must know how to use the tools of the trade, and have full journeyman mechanic knowledge of established trade practices and procedures.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Person

•   Must be a citizen of Ghana and an accomplished Research Scientist
•   Must possess a higher degree (PhD, DSc and DPhil) in either Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Science or related field.
