Job Description
The Lawyer shall manage the legal needs of the Institute.
Reporting Relationship:
The successful candidate shall report to the Registrar.
Duties:
• Provide sound legal advice to Management
• Prepare legal documents such as contracts, leases etc
• Review and prepare internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with statutory or legal requirements
• Liaise with external solicitors on ail legal matters
• Represent the Institute in court regarding legal suits
• Gather evidence to formulate defense or initiate legal actions
• Conduct legal research on issues relevant to legal risk management as identified
• Identify any new developments or current requirements in law which necessitate an improvement to the Institute’s standard legal documentation
• Develop processes to eradicate or mitigate legal liabilities
• Perform any other incidental and related duties as directed by Management
Terms of Appointment:
The successful candidate shall hold office for a term of three (3) academic years in the first instance and may be reappointed for further terms of three (3) academic years each, subject to satisfactory performance.
Qualification Required & Experience
• A minimum of LL.B with seven years minimum post qualification relevant working experience
• Should be someone who has been called to the bar
• Experience in an educational Institution will be an advantage
