Reporting Relationships
The Training Specialist reports to the Training and Support Manager.

Job Summary

•   The Training Specialist supports the capacity-building efforts of Program Implementation.
•   He/she designs effective learning processes.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

1)  Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.

2)  Working within one’s influence, serves as an advocate for children around the world who live in poverty and are not able to speak out for themselves. This includes being informed about the issues of children and influencing others to care about children who are in need.

3)  Designs effective learning process.

•   Participates in assessing training needs (TNA).
•   Designs and creates learning process.
•   Creates dynamic learning environment.
•   Coordinates project teams to meet specific learning objectives.
•   Network and resource link (co-facilitates with local trainers).
•   Works collaboratively with specialists to organize, provide expertise and deliver subject matter.

4)  Contextualizes learning content.

•   Contextualizes and delivers globally and locally developed training.
•   Develops training materials.
•   Understands local context and corporate culture.
•   Coordinates with stakeholder to ensure relevancy.
•   Ability to simplify and transfer complex concepts.

5)  Delivers learning opportunities.

•   Coordinates and contextualizes approach with PF to meet special learning needs of a cluster.
•   Delivers training on different platforms/blended learning (i.e. local, remote, large group, instructive, facilitative, computer-based training).
•   Evaluates learning processes and effectiveness.
•   Able to modify training strategies and delivery in response to feedback and evaluations.
•   Able to deliver a variety of subject matters.
•   Ensures coordination of logistics of training events.
•   Delivers learning opportunities for medium and larger groups.

Working Conditions

•   There will be extensive travel in Country.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

•   Mature Christian, with evangelical Christian values, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and above reproach in integrity and honesty.
•   University degree in Adult Education, Training, Facilitation, or related area of expertise.
•   Four years experience in Adult Education, Training, Facilitation or related area of expertise; with knowledge and experience of child development and social research methods.
•   Strong group facilitation skills.
•   Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating training programs in a way to meet others needs.
•   Ability to facilitate multiple content subject matters through multiple methodologies.
•   Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in small and medium sized groups.
•   Computer proficiency, experience with the Internet, applications of Microsoft Office and presentation and publication software.
•   Able to work collaboratively, cross-culturally, inter-denominationally and cross- organizationally.
•   Intermediate English skills are preferred.
•   Ability to drive is an added advantage.

Environmental Services and Spatial Planning Specialist
Responsible for the generation, storing, analysis, and sharing of bio-physical data that will enhance knowledge and management of natural resources on the landscape. Will generate and share information on carbon stocks and pools, support local REDD+ readiness initiatives, develop system for subnational Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), and assist in strategic spatial planning for the Western Region. Responsible for gathering specific data on forest and wetland cover and quality, landscape level landuse, and socio-economic indicators throughout the project. Will share the information with a network of stakeholders and using it to promote coastal landscape conservation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Build technical capacity of Area Development Programmes (ADP) staff in the areas of – concept paper development, proposal and reports writing.

•   Support ADPs to develop Plan of Action to monitor the implementation of audit and evaluation recommendations, and provide timely feedback to Project staff.
•   Provide technical backstopping in the production of Learning through Evaluation with Accountability and Planning documents.
•   Review and submit semi-annual and annual programmes and projects reports as well as budgets and detailed implementation plans in accordance with programme and project designs and provide timely feedback to Project staff.
•   Support ADP/Project Managers to capture essential data required for entry into Project Management Information System, and also to coordinate and provide timely feedback on review work flow processes at the Operation base level.
•   Work in close collaboration with programmatic sectoral technical specialists to ensure an integrated implementation approach in the projects & programs implemented by ADPs

Qualification Required & Experience

•   First Degree in development planning / research related.
•   Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in Design Monitoring & Evaluation is preferred.
•   Adequate hands-on experience in the construction and review of multi-year log frames.
•   Adequate skills in planning and conducting research.
•   Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
•   Ability to work and contribute to team building environment especially in a matrix reporting system.

•   Strong management and facilitation  skills and experience in capacity building.

SELF HELP AFRICA, West Africa Programme, is looking to recruit a Ghana Programme Coordinator to support and coordinate the West Africa programme’s activities in Ghana. This is a two (2) year employment contract on national terms and conditions, renewal will be dependent on the level of performance and availability of funding. GHANA PROGRAMME COORDINATOR (Tamale)

•   The Ghana Programme Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and development of SHAs programme in Ghana and for ensuring that Self Help Africa’s work contributes effectively and efficiently towards meeting the needs of small holder farmers and the goals of the organisation.
•   He/She will have the key responsibility to take forward, strengthen and develop programme links with donors and local partners and to strengthen our position and programmes in Ghana.
•   He/She will report directly to the Head of Programmes of the Self Help Africa West Africa Programme.
