JOB FUNCTION

The Field Officer will promote the project to young people in the target group in order to recruit participants for a training programme on entrepreneurship, life skills and financial literacy. They will be the first point of contact for all youth in Accra who are interested in the project, and will be responsible for screening and interviewing applicants wishing to join the programme. The Field Officer will also be maintaining records of all participants using a Participant Management Database.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The duties and responsibilities of the Field Officer are as follows:

•   Promote and raise awareness about the project to youths in target group, by undertaking community outreach activities and organising events to recruit participants to the training programme.
•   Ensure that recruitment of participants is gender-sensitive, and that a significant proportion of youth recruited to the programme are women.
•   Act as the first point of contact to all youths expressing interest in the programme
•   Screen and interview applicants to assess their eligibility.
•   Collect baseline data from participants though surveys and interviews.
•   Maintain accurate records of participant details using both paper records and data entry into the Participant Management Database.
•   Liaise with partner organisations to refer participants to their services.
•   Build relationships with stakeholders who could refer participants to the programme.
•   Manage a small team of volunteer field assistants.
•   Report to Project Manager on achievements of targets and any concerns arising
•   Perform other duties as may be necessary.

JOB FUNCTION

YES-Ghana is recruiting 5 trainers to lead on the facilitation of training sessions for youth participants enrolled on the programme in Accra. Trainers will attend a 5-day Training of the Trainers (ToT) workshop in Accra where they will be provided with the tools, skills and knowledge to successfully deliver an integrated training curriculum covering three substantive topics: a) Entrepreneurship; b) Life Skills and Work Readiness; and c) Financial Literacy. Following workshop completion, Trainers will deliver the training curriculum on a rolling basis to groups of 35+ youth participants.

The duties and responsibilities of the Trainers are as follows:

Session Preparation

•   Review and prepare all training materials ahead of each training sesion.
•   Manage requests for any training equipment (e.g. projector screen) required ahead of session delivery.
•   Arrange classrooms and outdoor training spaces ready for session delivery, ensuring all training spaces are sufficiently risk assessed and fit-for-purpose.

Session Delivery and Learning Support

•   Lead on the successful delivery of training sessions, to include the coordination and facilitation of both group-based activities and individual tasks.
•   Provide targeted support to youth participants to start and work through tasks set with assistance from a training support volunteer.

Behaviour Management

•   Successfully manage behaviour during session delivery, working within a robust Code of Conduct framework.
•   Escalate any participant behavioural concerns to the YES-Ghana team when necessary.

Monitoring and Evaluation

•   Monitor and record participant attendance and maintain other project records as required.
•   Implement youth-centred participant pre-training and post-training assessments and course feedback processes.
•   Provide inputs into consortium-wide training quality assessments and performance appraisals.

•   Arrange classrooms and outdoor training spaces ready for group activities.

Learning support

•   Help participants to start and work through tasks set by the lead Trainer (individuals or small groups).
•   Repeat and provide clear explanations of trainer instructions for participants who are unclear.
•   Occasionally facilitate group activities with support from the lead Trainer.

Behaviour management

•   Support the lead Trainer with managing behaviour during session delivery.

The duties and responsibilities of the Volunteer Field Assistants are as follows:

•   Promote and raise awareness about the project to youths in target group, by undertaking community outreach activities and organising events to recruit participants to the training programme.
•   Screen applicants to assess their eligibility for the programme.
•   Assist with data collection from participants.
•   Under the supervision of the Field Officer, maintain records of participant details using both paper records and data entry into the Participant Management Database.

Reporting Relationship: Snr. Management Systems Advisor reports to the Chief of Party

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Management Systems Advisor will be responsible for providing technical advice on the development, implementation and refinement of the management systems (which include planning, budgeting, financial management, supervision, implementation, human resources, and M&E) at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) and District Assembly (DA) levels to ensure that they are responsive to the issues and needs related to food insecurity and under-nutrition among vulnerable households and communities.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Master’s degree in international development, agriculture, economics, public health, nutrition or a related field of study;
•   Minimum 8 years or more advising government counterparts in developing and using management systems to support programming at the community level;
•   2-3 years experience working with decentralized government structures preferably in Africa;

OR

•   Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years similar experience;
•   Demonstrated expertise in at least one or more technical areas relevant to this program: agriculture, nutrition, public health, food security or livelihoods;
•   Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with government officials and leaders at national and local levels, local NGO and community organizations, and donor community
•   Excellent interpersonal skills and strong writing and administrative skills required;
•   Prior experience working on donor-funded development projects in Ghana or West Africa and experience working on USAID funded projects preferred;
•   Fluency in written and spoken English required.

The High Commission of Canada in Ghana has a requirement for a Development Officer in the “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Team” and the”Food Security Team” of the Development Assistance section.
