Job Vacancy For Deputy Director At Central University College

Under the Vice President Academic of the Central University College, the Deputy Director will act in place of the Director and will be responsible for administrating and coordinating the management and operations of the University’s Libraries including, budgetary aspects, services collections and planning, providing staff training and support services.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Provides reference support and user education by working closely with faculty and students
•   Meets the reseach needs of students and faculty by developing and organising print and media collections and
utilising online services and resources
•   Maintains library services by managing activities and priorities such as library orientations, acquisitions and cataloguing, preparing an annual acquisitions plan, maintaining functionality of collections and promoting preservation and access activities.
•   Maintains appropriate communication with the academic community, serves as liaison, provides programmes upon request, and meets with local public librarians on matters of related concern such as reviewing any reciprocal lending agreement.
•   Supervises training, schedules, monitors and evaluates job performance and serves as a staff selection resource for
the University Libraries
•   Maintains statistics of acquisition, catalogue, circulation and other services
•   Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, develops professional contacts with
national and international institutions or colleagues, attends professional conferences, training and development
courses.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A minimum of a research Master’s degree in Library Studies / Library Science/ Information Studies or a Master’s
degree in Education Technology with Library Science emphasis from a recognised Institution
•   A minimum of 12 years post qualification experience in a University Library or analogous Institution and must have served in a similar position for not less than 2 years
•   A strong and professional knowledge of library management including classification, automated cataloguing,
circulation and a capability gained in both traditional and electronic library environment is required
•   Computer capability and demonstration of skills in the use of library related Information Technology systems
•   Evidence of research publications in peer review journals/publications in the area of specialisation.

•   Must have at least fifteen (15) years post registration relevant work experience, five (5) years of which must be in a senior management position in a reputable institution.
